Did I really deserve the abuse??

Hi guys, I'm new to the site, and relatively new to hold 'em. I'm getting ok at the game I guess, but I guess you could say, I'm not taking it THAT seriously yet. I'm still learning.
Anyway, today I entered a freeroll tourny and on the second or third hand called with 4 9 spades. Now, I usually play pretty tight, and would throw it away, I've read all the guidelines.. but I had a feeling about the cards, and 4 9 suited is usually lucky for me. Two more spades came up on the flop, so I took another gamble, he raised and I called.. hit 2 more spades, and ended winning the hand with Q high flush. I think the other guy had 2 pair, one of them was a King??

Anyway, the guy saw i had 4 9 and really flipped out. He was saying really nasty stuff, how much of an absolute moron I was for playing the hand... and a lot of things I can't say on here. I'm pretty thick skinned, but he was over the top nasty, and just got me thinking, was that REALLY such a bad idea. Is it that bad to take a gamble every now and then?

In the end, he was out in about 350th place, and I ended up 38th. I had about 24,000 chips in the end, but I had to pick my daughter up, so I just played every hand, I probably could have got further if I didn't have to leave.


So, what do you think, sore loser, or am I really the worlds worst poker player?

Sounds like they couldn't handle being beat by someone with low suited pocket cards and posibly the fact of being beaten by a woman.

As you say, the game is about taking a gamble other wise it wouldn't be called gambling.

I've seen people win with the same sort of cards unsuited, it's the nature of the game.

You done nothing wrong, as your finishing poss sugests.

Sore losser is my conclusion.

you should really take down the tourney and hand number then report this moron.you can call with whatever you like.carry on playing theres lots of nice folk on here.

Just tell him 'oops sorry, i'll try to get it right next time'.

You were the one still in the tourney so why worry, any idiot can be abusive sat at the other end of an internet connection. You do not need to justify to him, us or anyone what cards you are playing and why.

it does'nt matter whatever your card is if you want to play them.
it just happen that you won that's why they are mad.
i'm even going all in with much lower card
but no one ever question the way i play them.
next time copy the chat and pm it to any mods.
the mods will make necessary action, if there
is an abuse, they might get banned!

I am curious PJ, you mentioned this as a "freeroll tourney". Were you on the real money side (sounds like it by the placement)? If you were, I agree that the attitude was poor, but the Moderators here do not handle that side as it is a partner site.

If it was on the free side, in the future if you will not the player, table and time then PM a moderator you will find that we are very efficient at handling issues to keep the play clean and enjoyable.

Thanks guys for all your replies. Thats pretty much what i thought. next time I will report them. It didn't really bother me too much, it just got me thinking really, would more experienced players think I was a terrible player, just because of that lucky hand? I guess not :-)

And yep, it was on the real money side... I much prefer the free side, but my PC seems to like the real money game screen better. Loads quicker and stuff

i don't consider myself an experienced player nor a good one.
but i know i can play with anybody.

in my own opinion you're a good player.
having the guts to play low cards says it all.
in poker you can not just wait for good hands,
you might not even have enough chips left when that time comes.
sometimes i play any cards just because i'm feeling good about it.

big loser this guy is. Best players know when too play high cards and when too play low ones. If you have feeling go for it. Shame that this happened too you on real money side cause if it was here our mods would ban him 100%.

ive seen exactly the same thing happen on utube... i think, but im not sure, but i think it was phil hellmuth... he lost it with someone for doing exactly the same sort of thing.

Was beaten by a 4,9 suited of Hearts earlier today...to a flush..Did I cry?...Did I scream?...Did I hurl torrents of abuse?...Nope!...I was out!...Thanked everyone for a good game...wished them all the best and got on with it...You can play and win with anyhand. I dissagree with everybody else here. Poker is not gambling Funky G. In some states it is established as a game of skill and therefore legal. Playing 94 suited was a bad play, and the other player had reason to be sore. I would've been sore to if some1 played a hand like that against me and won. Of course he shouldn't have reacted like he did. You didn't deserve the abuse but you shouldn't have played that hand at all.

this is play money. no need to get upset at all for any reason ever. i understand you put time into it therefore when you lose a lot you do get sad a bit but it is no reason to take it out on anyone. i think it was very rude and should be reported
