Wink an easy way to know what to call on

if you are sat there with, lets say Queen 4 and you'r thinking of betting ask yourself this,
am i willing to pay 3x the big blind to see if i can hit something, cos you always hav to be ready for a raise pre flop,
then ask yourself this,
if i hit a pair of Queens off the flop with a 4 kicker am i willing to call a 5x big blind bet to see the other cards?
same if you hit a pair of 4s are you willing to bet on them?

if the answer is no then why are you even in the hand? what was it you were looking for off the flop? cos if it was better than a pair you need to fined yourself a new game to play.

with small blinds, upto about 50/100, i will sometimes play hands like Q, 4, if a raise or something comes along i just fold.. its not a massive dent in the balance and i have hit trips and occasionally a full house playing such hands.. You have to be in it to win it..

it's a good time to play these hands on small blind, it's all to do with pot odds when that happens.

i have no idea about pot odds.. :-? but your right i would probably never play these type of hands with larger blinds.. the chances of hitting are pretty slim..

pot odds comes down to the size of the pot to the size of the bet and how strong your hand is,
after the flop if the pot is 10,000 chips and someone puts a bet of 1000 and you only need a club to giv you an Ace high flush then your bet of 1000 is worth going on at odds of 2t1 that the club will come out.

On the sebjcet of what hands to call i tend to call aything from a strength of say j 8's upwards (or any pocket pair), as the blinds start to get tighter and tighter the strength of hands i play in general start to go up and i limit myself to lowest strength hand being pocket 6's and higher.

If i have atleast 10x bb i will throw odd balls out there, such 4,6 3,2 suited. just to throw my oposition off, sometimes i find payi someone off will in the long run ge me a bigger pay off in the long run, however im not going to do this everyhand... thats just silly lol
but as a rule i tend to stay out of pots and hands that i have no business being in a taking the pot as soon as possible with what i assume is at the time beiest hand, i dont like to drag it out trap because chances are someone who has played q-4 has made a lucky flush on the river and stole the chips that i could have took on the flop or preflop

Yes, losing to a Q 4 will tend to test ones patience a bit. That is all I will say about that.
