| Awww I remember when i didn't understand side pots, it used to thoroughly pi*$ me off. So i tell you everything you need to know about side pots ![]() 1st kind: Like Earp said above if someone goes all in and gets called by someone who has less chips the plyer with more chips will get chips back regardeless because you can only win the same amount you put in. I'll do a scenario to make it easier for you. say you have 1000 you go all in AA and get raised by someone who has 5000 (they go all in) and they then get called by someone that has 5000. There will now be two pots, the main pot of 3000 which you have the possibility to win and 8000 in the side pot which you can never have because you can only win up to the amount you've put in off of each player. Now let's say after all is said and done the board looks like this: A of hearts A of diamonds, king of hearts, 2 of hearts and 9 of hearts. One person has KK and the other has QQ. You win 3000 with your four of a kind because thats the best hand given, then the second best hand is the full house (kings over aces) he wins the 8000 because that's what is left after you've won your slice. 2nd Kind(split_pot): This is where you both have made a pair but have a poor kicker, remember in texas holdem and Omaha its the best 5 carded hand that wins. So I'll give you another scenario. You have A2 and your opponent has A6. The board shows A K 9 8 10, you both have bet 500 throughout the streets (flop turn and river) and at the end the pot is 1000. You both show your hands and because the best five carded hands are the same for the both of you ( Pair (A + A) + K + 10 + 9) you both get your 500 back out of the main pot. 3rd Kind(split_pot): This is very similar to the 2nd Kind. This is where the board has a better hand than both of you. So lets say you have K 10 and your opponant has A2 (note in this scenario the hands you have doesn't really matter) The board then shows 4 5 6 7 8 (a straight), you both win back whatever you put into the pot because neither of you have improved on the board (in this case neither of you have a 9, in this case even if he had a 3 youd both win because the best five card hand is is the 8 high straight, and his three would only make 7 high, so the board has counterfeited his hand) This is similar to if the board has 5 hearts on it, if neither of you have a heart it doesnt matter if he's made a straight, or if youve made two pair because the board has a flush and the board is there for everyone to use. ![]() i hope this helps, need anything feel free to ask ![]()

| Very well explained Tb1rd. I don't want to be petty but just for clarity your first example is a very good explanation of a side pot while the other two are examples of split pots.
