1-12-08 Tip of the day: Never fall in love with a hand. Remeber that the only hand in texas holdem that can't be beat is a Royal straight flush. Let me give you an example, you hold the Ac-Ad the flop comes Js-7h-8d and one player bets another raises. You should stop and think about this. At this point in the hand there are seven hands that can beat you, do you fold or call. I'm going to let you answer that question. The turn is a 4d the same thing happens one player bets the other raises. This is also going to be the hand of the day. I want you to to count the number of hands that can beat you at this point in the hand and what you should do fold or call?
Answer later today: there are two straight draws 45678 and 78910J, there is four 3 of a kind hands and six two pair hands that can beat you. What do you think call or fold? I left out the part of this question that will give you the right answer. I'll tell you that tomorrow, so think on this I did it for a reason.

1-13-09 Tip of the day: The part I left out of yesterdays question was pot odds. This is easy to figure out. Lets say there is 1200 chips in the pot at this time and you have to put in 200 chips to call. All you have to do is divide 200 into 1200 and that will give you 6 to 1 on your on pot odds, that a good return on you chips. Now you have to figure if it is worth while to call. You have to figure out hand odds. You have Ac Ah so you have
14 out that will improve your hand, two Aces, three Jacks, three Sevens, three Eights and three Fours in the deck=14. There is 46 unseen cards left . So that means there are 14 good cards and 32 bad cards if you divide 14 into 32 this tells you that there is a 2.4 to 1 that you will get a card the will improve your hand. With pot odd of 6 to1 you would have to go with this hand.

1-14-08 Tip of the day: As you you saw in yesterdays tip pot odds are another part of your game that you can plug up a leak. You should calculate pot odds on the flop, turn and river. As you saw yesterday they are very easy to figure and you shuold make them part of your game.

1-15-07 Tip of the day: Your hand is 9s-9c on the turn the board reads Jh-8c-10d-9s what are the odds of making a full house or four of a kind. You can find out on this page. This will be the hand of the day to.
Answer: The numder of outs you have is 10. Three Js, three 10, three 8s and one 9, you also have 46 unseen cards 10 good ones and 36 bad ones. To find the answer all you have to do is divide 10 into 36 and that is 3.6 to 1 odds of making your hand.

Answer to the hand of the day: three Js, three 10s, and three 9s, that is it for this hand because hold the 9s. This hand may change on the river card then you will have to refigure this hand.

1-16-08 Tip of the day: Hand odds and pot odds I have showed you how to figure them both. Now how to use them together. Lets say the pot odds 4 to 1 and your hand odds are 3.5to1 in this case you would have to call because you are getting the right pot odds. Now if the pot odds lets say are 2 to 1 and your hand odds are 3.5 to 1, you would not be geting the right pot odds on your chips to take the chance of hitting your hand, so you would have to fold. If the pot is giving you more that 3.5 to 1 you should call. This is just one set of odds, different hands will produce different odds if your pot odds are lower than your hand odds you should fold most of the time.

1-18-08 Tip of the day: Question what is the benefit of playing in late position.
Answer: The later your position the more hands you can play and the more aggressive you can be. If you are on a drawing hand you will know how many players you have to play and what it is going to cost you. What it comes down to is that you will have more information.

1-19-08 Tip of the day: Would you rather play 8-8 against three playerys or several players?
Answer: The more players the better this gives you the right pot odds to play that hand. You still might have to fold it but preflop the odds are there.

First of all I want to thank all players who read the tip of the day and second a special thanks to players that help other players by answering questions for them. As you know by now this site is growing larger every day and as it grows the questions and comments in tip of the day do as well. So I changed the question and answers thred to Questions and Answers and Comments. The reason for this is to make it easy for newbies to read through the tip of the day and saves me time moving posts.I will prune this thred every now and then to keep it as organised as posible. I do not want to restrict this thred to my use only the reason for this is some players post really good tips in there. I hope you all understand why I must do this. I've moved most posts to the new Question and Answers and Comments thred already. And yes I will prune that shortly (LOL).

Thanks again
Bob

1-27-08 Tip of the day: Lets say you hold 87s in middle position and there is two callers in front of you and the player to your left has reised the pot the last few times preflop. What should you do. Answer later today.
Answer:You should fold with small suited conectors because there is the chance that the player on you left will raise again and limit the number of players in the hand. You will need a lot of players to call to make right size pot for you to to take the chance.

Look at the board

Here is another really good tip for newbies.
Always be sure to have a good look at the board. The easiest hand to be caught out with is a straight. For example the board may read

8 K 10 K 7

You may have a 3rd king in your hand so therefore you make a raise. However if you observe the board it is possible a straight can be made by another player. For example 6 7 8 9 10 or even 7 8 9 10 j

If you make a raise with your 3 kings and they re raise be sure to have a second look at the board before you call or raise again

It is also possible that they hold two 8s two 10s or two 7s and have a full house so be careful. Another good tip to remember is that if you see a pair on the table a full house is also possible!

I hope this helps
Baz

Thanks for that tip Baz it's a good one
