Default When you win....

Hi,

I've only started playing this yesterday so I'm still trying to get my head around the rules.

I was wondering, how come sometimes when someone wins, the pot gets split between two people?

Kind regards,
John

I have played here for a month and im still kinda confused about split pot, this is what i think, someone who has played for a while and knows can post if im right.

If 2 people have exactly the same hand, its split.
If both have the same pair, then its up to who has the highest card "kicker"
if 2 people have the same straight , example; 4-5-6-7-8 then its split pot but if another guy has a nine, its his pot.
In a flush its the one with the highest card in that suit.
Here's where im confused.

Kicker is only 1 card or 5 cards?
If there are 5 hearts on the table(only on the table not in the hand), and there are 4 players playing, but only 1 has a heart in his hand, does it become his pot or does it go to who has the highest kicker?

If the hart in his hand is higher than the lowest hart on the board he wins the pot. If the hart is lower than the lowest hart on the board the pot is split 4 different ways in this case. There is no kicker when a hand uses all five cards.

Also, on an all-in bet, a player can only win as much as he puts in, from each player that calls his bet. If betting continues with other players, he would have NO RIGHTS to any bets above and beyond his all-in. therefore, sometimes even 2nd and 3rd highest hands can also get a piece of the action.
