Woop woop, new season starts in a couple weeks and it's now on BBC, no adverts, even better.

Lets hope this season is as good as last, lots of new rules and regs, engines have to be used for more races, less down force and i think i saw that they have added something called KERS, Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems, which become optional for 2009. The systems take waste energy from the car's braking process, store it and then reuse it to temporarily boost engine power.

With all the changes, it should be an interesting season.

The one to beat in 2009

Major rule changes set inplace for 2009.
Testing reduced again.
Aerodynamics cut.
KERS systems introducted.
Return of slick tyres.
Engine revs reduced again.

With the changes to front & rear wings the cars appear rather ugly in my opinion. Also the size of the front wing could cause a lot of carbon fibre debris on the ciruit leading to punctures.

But with all these changes, this season is set to a blinder.
Close racing and a more likely chance of seeing a lot more overtaking (not that we r short of that with Lewis on track )

thanks for the link, very interesting. now, mcclaren say that their car isn`t good enough yet. i`m hoping they will get it sorted in a couple of weeks. going by what i have read about the new rules/guidelines, it will be about the driver more than anything else. so we all know that hamilton has great ability. and now has a couple of seasons under his belt. i think that this is hamiltons season, and will be won well before the last race...
come on lewis!!!!!!!

Cheers Jimmy.
As much i like hamilton,i think he is still a bit of a loose cannon. Some of his decisions, tactics and manoeuvers are more than questionable,it nearly cost him 2 championships.
After all that though,he is still the guy who gets my vote4winner in 2009.He is so adaptable & will ring the neck of any machine.
Cant wait4the kick off

To follow on from what kev just posted, just copied ths from the F1 web site.

Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has approved a change to the points systems for this year’s drivers’ championship, which will see the title awarded to the driver with the most race wins. The rest of the standings, from second to last place, will be decided by the current points system.

If two or more drivers finish the season with the same number of wins, the title will be awarded to the driver with the most points, the allocation of points being based on the existing 10, 8, 6 etc. structure. The constructors’ championship is unaffected.

The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council accepted the proposal for the new system from Formula One Management at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday. An alternative proposal to change the points awarded to drivers finishing in first, second and third place to 12, 9 and 7 points respectively was rejected.

Intersting change to the old system, not sure what to think of it yet, should spice this season up more with all the rest of the changes.

That race wins thing rediculous in my opinion.
All the recent changes have either been to cut costs or/and to boost the profile of the sport to incourage more ppl to watch.
With points only, there is more chance of a end of season showdown like 2008,and it doesnt come more exciting than that.
The end of this season is now more likely to b won b4 the end.
Now there is no reward 4 a driver that is concistently good.Surely 2nd place at every race is better that 1 win all season, thats long odds but my point is........the driver with the most points can b beaten by a driver with a car suited to a perticular type of track, without even being the best behind the wheel.
A total joke.
Why hand out points at all?Why not medals instead?Gold Silver Bronze, winner is the 1 with most golds unless a tie, then most golds n silvers ect
Now ive got to explain it all to Lauz again.....oh eck,i cant feel a headache coming on LMAO

does this also apply to the constructors title?

anyhow, i dont like this new format because you could have a driver who wins 1 race and finishes 2nd or 3rd for the rest of the races and still gets beat by another driver who fails to qualify for the majority of the season although by chance wins 2 races due to weather issues or a crash senario.

The end of last season was the most exciting ever, but if these new rules were in place it would have all been irrelevant AND Lewis would not have won the title.
The only benefit is the drivers in 2nd or 3rd place will fight more to win the race rather than settle for the 2nd/3rd place points.

After thinking about the newest change for a few hours now, i think it is one of the most stupid changes they have ever made, why mess with a system that has worked for ages.

I bet it was Ferrari that was a major factor in this new change going through, they seem to get most things they want.
