| This is the man convicted of killing 270 innocent people in Britains worst ever terrorist attack. On 21/12/1988 flight Pan Am 103 crashed into lockerbie ending the lives of 243 passengers, 16 crew members and 11 civilians of lockerbie. Still despite that fact this scumbag has been released from prison on compassionate grounds because he has terminal prostrate cancer. I think this is an absolute F****** joke. What right does this scumbag have to see out the rest of his life in comfort? Why should he be allowed to see his family again?? Were any of the 270 victims given that chance?? Yet another example of the so called "justice system" being a shambles. I pray to god that this pathetic excuse for a human being suffers as much pain and discomfort as possible before he dies

| Unclepony, I initially felt the same as you, but after listening to the whole of the Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill's statement I feel the correct decision has been made. Obviously the scumbag showed no compassion or thoughts to his victims, but that is because he is a scumbag. I expect I'll be in the minority in this but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

| You misunderstand me. I would not have released him (or Ronnie Biggs), but I accept the arguements given and believe they made the right decision based on their beliefs - not on emotion or public opinion; it was a brave decision.

| have a look at dr Smiths statements , I`m very far from a liberal , ( I would have hung the bastard any way )but I beleive that he was a scapegoat & it is far more likely that an Iranian did it , as I said check it out ,

| not that i'm agreeing with compassionate leave but the evidence was very circumstancial in this case and i also believe that he was a scapegoat here. Would I feel differently if I had a family member on that flight, probably but being emotionally detached it is easier to say this. My heart does go out to all families involved. |

| What I find sickening about the whole sorry episode is that on his return to Lybia he seems to have been greeted with what was not far short of a heros welcome. |
