I have just read that the government of the UK, is going to pay out millions of pounds to Guantanamo detainees for harsh treatment during their incarceration.I am for the first time in my life completely and totaly speechless.This is one hell of a slap in the face to many people world wide!I cant believe that we have come to a place in this world,where we reward extreamist A holes for terrorizing their fellow human beings.OMG I am seeing RED!!!!!!!I cant even continue Im so p!ssed!

I hear ya treacle,and please note I have nothing but respect for all my English friends,and there may even be some who agree with the decision by the UK government.For me however its just so far over the top,that i cant even fathom who thought this is a good idea. In the article the main reason given was that the cost of lawsuits would far out weigh a payoff.So I guess its a money thing,they figure a few million pounds is better then 50 million plus.

As far as I am aware, none of them have been convicted of terrorist offences, only suspected. If the government has evidence of their guilt, then bring them to trial.

And if they are not guilty, put yourself in their shoes, how would you feel if you were mistakenly arrested and treated the way they were ?

Personally, I am more disgusted by the totally inadequate levels of compensation victims receive.

OK fozzy you do have a point there,but here is how i look at it.In order to make to Guantanamo Bay which is where they took the worst of the worst,its hardly reasonable to think they were mistakenly arrested.The article does not mention their guilt or innocence,only the treatment they received while they were there.If I understand correctly,The United States was in charge of this facility,with help from the UK and other allies.So why not sue the United States? Why should you Brits foot this bill?I'll tell ya why.The first Idiot politician of ours,that would bring up such a thought of paying these criminals off,would be hanging from a Capital lamp post the next day.

i agree with everything guv said...and also our governments, past and present, are all spineless and bow over too easily to the likes of brussels and the US.
Give us English people 'the right to vote' on Europe etc and they wouldnt be laughing all the way to their bank accounts then!
