Reaper, keep your head up. You did nothing wrong. Unfortunately, the law is for the criminals these days.
In the states, there was a case that a criminal broke in to another person's home. The criminal slipped and fell and sued the owner of the house and won! Unfortunately, some lawyers are corrupt as well. Make sure your lawyer is a decent one. There are some.

Its outrageous mate..i know ya a big lad and very handy butta what the hell are you gonna do if someone comes at you with a hammer specialy when your lass is in danger..its not your fault if you hit harder than most mate..i would have done same..hope all works out for you both
