all ive ever used is avg free from grisoft, they also do an anti spyware scan and removal for free. havnt had a virus in 3yrs.

There is nothing worth using other than AVG if you are looking for a free one.

There are only two other options.

1). You could dish out the money and pay for one. If you really dont want to use AVG, then this is the only way you will get adequate protection.

or

2). Some of the more known virus scanners have online scanning capabilities. These take much longer than normal scanners, But essentially do the same job

with out a doubt the best anti-virus advice so far. if you do go to dodgy sites your best off creating a dead end pathway folder that has no access to any other part of your computer esp the system files. set this folder as your 'save to' when downloading. it can be scanned safely in there and then deleted if neccessary..

i have a very small partition on my external drive for this purpose, you can use partition magic to create it.
