bad news with my son

i told a few friends here on op66 that my son managed to ask a girl to the prom. however, a day later my son told me that she can't go with him 'cause she has a boyfriend. he says he is not distraught and will move forward with what he calls his (backup plan) dunno what that really means yet, but i guess I'll have to see.

Aw that sucks for him. Assuming I'm of roughly the same age as him, in his situation I'd just want to be left alone, if he wants to talk to you about how he feels then let him come to you, don't force the conversation out of him as its not something we often like to talk about

I asked many a girl out to a dance in my younger days, and without fail they all turned me down. Tell him its character building, it never did me any harm. Eventually I found someone drunk enough to get pregnant on the first night and then she was trapped, same will happen to him one day

ch3ck I'm sorry your son doesn't get to go with the girl of his choice. The great thing about being young is that young hearts heal very fast and new loves are just around the corner. I'm sure he will still have a great time.

I'm with star on this. Young hearts ARE quick healers, and your boy will soon wonder what the fuss about that one girl was as there will be plenty of opportunities to come in the future. Leave him be, let him lick his wounds, and he will bounce straight back up again without another mention of her. x

ok so apparently my son told me he thinks he's "cool" 'cause she did not neccesarily say she didnt want to. he says he thinks because she has a boyfriend that she is obviously obligated not to go. makes sense to me, though my son is known to over analyze things. lol

Been there, done that. My first prom date was in a relationship, but I still asked her to the prom, cheeky me huh? Sometimes I wish though that I hadn't done that, but what happened happened. Going alone to prom isn't that bad really, should have done that instead, you get to dance with more people and you don't feel like you're tied down to one person the whole night. Regardless tell him to have fun, and definitely take a camera to make sure to remember the night for years to come.

Sometimes crazy things happen before prom. My daughter had everything for prom and was ready to go with her boyfriend...then 2 weeks before he broke up with her. She was so sad and didn't want to go. After consoling her, I told her to go anyway. She found a good friend to go with her as her date. She was glad she went!!

Ummm, not to sound harsh here, but did you suggest that he asks someone that is single? If someone says they are in a relationship, shouldn't he just respect that and move on?
