Default Blind-lemoncheesemonger gets the blame..

I hope there aren't any players on here who think this is in anyway directed at them. It's just a lighthearted look at the reality of crying over bad beats. All characters are totally fictitious..

I always find a delicious irony when someone says ' I just lost a game to a bad player who played really badly'...
I mean.. what is the loser actually saying?
In what other game in the world would you hear a loser blaming the winners "bad play" for their loss?
That's basically saying " I'm an even worse player than them."

Imagine the captain of a football team reporting to his manager..
"Sorry boss, we lost 4 - 0 today, but it was because our opponents were such bad players and they played really badly"....
And the manager saying..." Yeah m8, happens all the time to me too when I play golf...so many bad players around...playing uhhhh really badly yeah..."

Now for the reason why you hear that rather outlandish statement so much in poker...
Poker has a very large element of chance.
The cards are shuffled, they fall randomly. NO ONE who isn't a psychic ( or a cheat ) can predict which cards will fall in which order.

People get a certain feeling of entitlement when they get dealt a couple of high cards:-

" This is the nuts," says Donkeyborlix, "I've got a pair of aces and it's the best starting hand, I'm gonna bet these babies."
WHAMM! "30,000 chips says no combination of the other 25 randomly dealt cards is gonna beat these bazookas".

Wow! And there it is...272, straight off the top of the deck.
And turns out that Blind-lemoncheesemonger has called the 30,00 because he wants to see what the flop brings. ( as he is perfectly entitled to ).
And guess what? He has 2 7 off suit. (and is now wearing a huge grin )..

So now we see Donkeyborlix blaming Blind-lemoncheesemonger for not folding to his big raise:-
"You called my 30,000 raise with 2 7 off suit you imbecile. you're a horrible player!"
"You got no respect and you don't know how to play poker." ( Doesn't he sound like Phil Helmuth?)
"I can't believe you didn't fold when I raised..." ( Hello? Why should he fold? Isn't his money as good as yours?)
"That's not poker, calling 30,000 chips with 2 7 off suit. Dirtbag!" ( not poker??)

"You are just one lucky donk !. Jeeeeez...don't you know you're supposed to fold when I raise?" ( says who? )
"Maggot brain, go and boil your head you lucky son of a dungbeetle...
mutter, mumble, curse, .......your momma...mumble...grunt..."

Ahahhh !... now we see what's really going on. Donkeyborlix EXPECTED to win. He didn't because the other guy ' got lucky.'
Or was it because he himself got unlucky? Same thing isn't it?
Don't we see people getting their aces cracked all the time and being told " unlucky".?

So when Donkeyborlix is slating the guy who won, what he is really doing is bemoaning his own luck.
What he overlooks is the fact that, if he wins, HE's lucky. Just the same as the other guy was against him.

Donkeyborlix..you CANNOT BLAME another player for wanting to chance his own money on whatever he feels is going to win, so what ARE you blaming him for?
Your own bad luck? Isn't that immature and more than faintly ridiculous ?
So next time you go putting your money on the table, betting on the random fall of cards - DON'T WHINGE ABOUT IT AND DON'T BLAME THE OTHER PLAYERS WHEN YOU GET UNLUCKY!
Take up a less stressful hobby like knitting or collecting matchbox labels....( and do us all a favour).

In the end. it's just life...and we all know what life is...

too much for me to read...but for the most part, I agree with everything I read so far. If you lost your hand to a bad player and the bad player won,, how could that be bad. What ppl fail to realize, no one knows what u have in ur hand. Part of playing poker is about bluffing and pay to see. That's poker..u can play any hand u want. If you sit down at a table to gamble or even for fun..its a GAMBLE...u can't win them all. I really am so tired of this subject. If I call a bad hand and lose well thats just tuff. If I call a bad hand to bluff and win...well the luck or odds, whatever u want to call it, was on my side. "CLOSED"

What a dilemma -- so many threads on similar topics that I was undecided where to post but the thread opener/opening post(or OP on other sites - too confusing on this site) was so humourous that I came here. I have stated in other threads that I have no problems with the way anyone plays the game and would never criticise their play esp during a game. This does not seem to be the case for all players.

The other day in a tourney, I was small blind at 15chips and had 2,4 spades. When big blind was not raised by any player I played the hand - 15 extra chips- no big deal and the two hole cards were suited. Flop included 2 more4's and eventually I ended up full on 4's. Another player not even in the hand commented that no one had the right to play a hand of that nature. Obviously he is wrong and I chose to ignore the comment but this is an example of the the arrogance of so-called poker experts.

I am no poker expert but if you don't want to take the chance of a hand of this nature winning, have confidence in your own hand and bet accordingly to force the fold. Anytime I am small blind with a hand like this and it is not expensive to play I will play the hand - complain all you like.

I think it's fair for me to say I have never slanged another player for beating me with any hand. One player said to me the other day that I took a so-called bad beat too well and he would have ranted about it but every word you say in this thread is so true. Some players do expect to win every time their starting hand is better than the player betting against him, I love it when I win with 9 3 lol and I love it when I'm called a git, I take it as a compliment.

I cannot understand what it is that makes some people think they have any right to say who should or shouldn't play any cards they want to.

Your choice of 'arrogance' is a good word to use................. I think my choice of word would be different

Very funny and well written opening post Phatt.

Now to serious matters -- this may have been posted before as it is part of an old email but I want to know if you own this restaurant?

No, that's a distant Chinese cousin of mine.
He used to run a noodle bar as a front for an illegal gambling syndicate.
He was arrested recently for impersonating a female police officer in Holland.
I believe Fred met him...

both side of the argument p me off. the ones that think its ok for people to call any raise with crap and the ones the have a go at people for getting annoyed about it. more reasons pushing me to give up for good.
