Default Casino Question

I'm planning my first ever trip to a Casino with 2 mates; unfortunately my two mates don't play poker so I wondered if anyone can recommend what to play and possibly give some tips.

We'll have about £60 each, hope to make it last a couple of hours coming home with something in our pockets.

I play in a live Tournie every Tuesday, usually 25 - 35 players.
Will be going to a Newcastle Casino (Aspers), but don't know when yet.

I strongly recomend you stick with poker, maybe suggest your friends play an hour or 3 on-line to get the basics. It's the only casino game where there's an element of skill. I have been to a casino 5 times, and have always left at least £100 up, First time with Kev and Baz I was up about £250 I think. you can play 10 seat £1/50p cash tables in most casinos, I recomend you play those.

agree strongly with ya Jimmy. stick to the pokerard, 5, holdem, (paigow if ya can wrap yer head around it).
STAY AWAY FROM THE SLOTS. slots dont run on a random tumble anymore. payoffs are generated by noise levels in the casinos ie.. more ppl playing the slots = more noise = payoffs. less ppl mean less chances.
blackjack is iffy.watch the tables b4 u jump in. just 1 person at the table that doesn't have knowledge of the game can screw it for evry1.
other than that bring rabbits foot, holy water and a 4 leaf clover just for insurance

Slots in the UK are everywhere, (we call the friut machines). pubs/bars, cafes, chip shops, moterway stations, train stations, casinos etc..
the law in the uk is they must pay-out a minimum of 72% (i.e. every £100 that goes in, £72 must pay out) some are set as high as 95%.

Sandy..one or two suggestions that might help..
all of the wheels, slots, blackjack, baccarat or dice games are played against the house, and the edge is always with the house.
The only game that isn't played against the house is poker. The house takes a rake, but the game is between you and other people just like yourselves.
So my advice would be..
1 )..stick to poker if you want to start going regularly to casinos, otherwise you will find your bankroll slowly disappearing into those machines.
2 )...The first time you go, don't play at all. Just watch and see how the whole thing works. Check out the tables, the house rules, then find a game that suits your limits and just watch for a while. That way you get to know the procedures, dealer etiquette etc... You'll probably be surprised at how bad some of the players can be..
the next time you go you'll feel more comfortable and you'll still have a good bankroll to play with.
3 )..when you do go to play, choose the game that you join carefully..try not to get on a table with overly aggressive or tricky players.Look at the stack sizes and go for a table where the average stack is around about your buy in. If you see a table where two or more players seem to be dominating the game and have massive stacks, avoid it..
they will be getting lucky, or just be using their chips to push people around.
4 ).If you see a strong player at the table, try and get a seat on his left..that way you get to act after him and can decide whether or not you want to tangle with him in any hand..Whenever possible, try to put the stronger or more unpredictable players on your right and the looser, more passive players on your left. this gives you position over the ones who are most dangerous..
5 )..Don't drink too much before you play!.
good luck with it and have a nice day P

wow really good advice. might have to drive a couple hours to the closest casino and try this myself. About position. I definitely agree with what you say in regards to left right. However I'd add something to the strong player position. I'd still sit to his/her left (he/she on my right), but I'd skip a couple chairs to keep out of being in the blinds and button at the same time where a lot of confrontation occurs. I heard a pro (Howard Lederer maybe?) say you want to sit directly across the table from a strong opponent. I guess the reasoning is that you'll be in middle position when the other is button/blind and vice versa so less likely to be in the hand and stealing the other's blinds or button raise.

Anyway advice good just like poetry.

loved to play the tournaments in casino's, such as $25 buy in for 10,ooo chips. At least you can play for a few hours and have some fun. Had the best time ever in Vegas and they offered these four times a day. Watch the players first to get a hang of it.placed three times in top 3 outa of five games. Good money.

Stay away from the slots as it's just being the right person at the right time, but have won quite a bit on them. But don't keep putting good money after bad, you have to know when to quit so give yourself a limit.

have fun! and I like the holy water, rabbits foot and four leaf clover bit

Wow you get 1 pound/50p cash tables?? Down here, theres 2 cash games... One of which is minimum 250 euros to sit down, and the other is much higher stakes.
The cash games look rather hard tho and theres usually a few pros there.
If i was to recommend something it would be a freezeout tournament if they have one. Buy ins aren't too high and top prize is usually about 2000- 3000 euros.

Other than that, as everyone has said before, stay AWAY from the roulette and the slots....even the electronic poker machines are sh1te

Either way good luck with whatever you do and hope you win plenty

does it mean that you can win loads of money by getting all your mates to shout while you're on the slot machine?

So the best advice is to take a large crowd with you, get them all drunk and singing football songs and just clean up on the fruit machines..

Yeah, minimum £50 - £250 maximum. but once you're sat on the table, you can just top-up £20 at a time if you wish (if you run out).
I have played a couple of mtt's at the casino, but didn't enjoy so much, as players take turns in dealing, on the cash table, the house supplies the dealer, much easier after a vodka or 15...

After listening to all your advice I've changed plans.
I have dumped my 2 non poker playing pals and am now going with a group of poker playing pals.
Going this Saturday and entering the afternoon multi table tournament, then sussing everything else out.
If anyone is free and lives around Newcastle I'll be at Aspers Casino.

*oh and I've arranged to go back at a later date with my other 2 mates.
