The annoying thing about some of the so-called poor countries, especially the African ones is the amount of wealth there is for the people who run the country, yet millions of their poorer people are starving and dying of horrible diseases. The fat dictators milking theses countries should be made to pay for their own sick and dying or at least make some sort of effort. You hear all the time of civil wars while the ordinary people are starving to death. If the African Dictators were sorted out then maybe one government should aid another but asking a person in England say, who could well be struggling himself, to fork out five quid a month is asking too much. In my case I only just make ends meet as it is, if I forked out for the starving in Africa I'd be struggling even more, maybe the bank owners could use a little of the interest they charge us to help Africa, or the footballers on a hundred thousand a week, they can afford it. I could go on all week about the rich helping the poor so stop asking the poor to help the poor.

I agree with you fred, the african countries could make their way by their own, if only the governments would be changed, but.... i don´t think its that easy for people there doing this without starting a revolution, which would lead the country to even more problems. We´ve all seen this often enough in the past,it always ends up in cruel war scenes. Thousands of mothers with a bunch of children in refugee camps, all male family members killed by the army...it isnt their fault, is it? .... Helping the poor countries after a disaster, no matter what kind of should be out of question in my opinion. Since years i am the president of a charity club in my hometown, we´re supporting the poorest families in our municipality, unfortunately the amount of poor people here is increasing steadily...but nevertheless we shouldn t forget the poorest of the poor in other countries of the world, their situation is even worse than here.In germany, anybody is dying of starving... I do agree with you Fred, in your statement about the rich helping the poor. I dont understand those people either. But, if we weren´t that crazy about e.g. football, players wouldn t get payed like they get now. But complaining about that won´t change anything. Me too, i could go on all week about this... it won´t help the poor... I guess anyone of the op 66 family is really rich, we all have to do our jobs well to keep us and our families going...but still we´re going well, compared to all the really poor...

My only problem with helping other nations in there time of need,is that the funds given to them never seem to make it to the actual event. There was a recent article in our local paper saying the effort in Haiti, although billions have been sent.has seen no finacial relief.I have a huge problem with that.It reminds me of my father who was a protestant pastor for over 40 yrs.People would come to him for finacial assistance through the church.there was such a fund that my dad used to help people in need.He would tell them,if you need a bill paid,or food or even a months rent I will come with you and pay that for you.More than 50% of the time people would simply turn around and walk out, because he didnt hand them over a wad of cash. There dosent seem to be any checks and balances when one country hands over a wad of cash to another in the name of disaster. I suppose for that reason I am against this method of help.

My only experience with charities was when I plastered a new building for a charity aiming to help Whales and Dolphins. The money they spent on their lovely new offices might well have saved loads of Dolphins but it surely gave them plush offices to work in. If this goes on the same in aiding the starving then it is never right.

| While I do raise money for charities it is always for home grown ones like Help the Heroes, Breast Cancer Research, and the RSPCA, I dont believe in giving money to childrens charities as I think we all pay enough money in taxes, NI etc to allow the government to take care of them and we have far too many benefits for people whove never worked a day in their lives but just procreate. We have an awful lot of people needing help in our own Country inlcuding people who have fought for us in the past or have stayed at home while loved ones went off to the front we should sort them out first and then any additional funds go to the most immediate crisis. When the rich and the criminals from all these countries come over here illegaly or otherwise and take up all our resources I dont feel willing to help them unless it was with sending them condoms so they dont have so many kids so averting the next crisis.
