| Think of it economically we are paying for these gits to be housed, fed and watered when they have commited crimes against our families and friends a lot cheaper to give them the injection and probably a lot less painful than what they put the victims through.

| great question and debate here sally...... i can see both sides to this, and me,, what i do for a living??? hmmmm.. if by no means a person is and i mean GUILTY of a hanus crime (meaning the worst of the worst, use your head on this one) by all means YES! if however a person commits a murder in a course of a crime such as a shooting, stabbing (ect) i can see handing down a harsh sentence, but not so much as a death sentence. i also see the fact that if it happend to someone in our lives it probably would change that opinion.... but if you see the hanus criminals in prison on any given day and the privilges that the get such as daily visits, food packages,tv,(the shows you pay for.. they get for free) clothes, OVER NIGHT 2 DAY VISITS WITH THERE GIRL FRIENDS,(aka frp... family reunion plan) free soap, medical, toilet paper, tooth brushes, sheets, towels, and get wages to work.. the list goes on and on..... so to answer your question on the death penalty,, would you be ok with a criminal who commited a hanus crime. getting a better life on the inside than MOST hard working honest people on the other side?? 1 more thing how would anyone feel about a person who commited such a crime to be allowed to go through a grievance process that costs thousands AND THOUSANDS of dollars to sort at a minimum for not getting a jello desert at lunch time?? (its true) and for those that dont know me here, i DO have a working knowlege of the system.. |

| REAPER... read my posts on this thread... yes, I had a very close family member murdered... I did choose to forgive the sinner... otherwise, my own life would be a living hell. Read further... I opposed prosecution seeking the death penalty. |

| After reading the thread by ChineseIrish, and seeing some of the comments by members, i'd like to know members' overall view of this subject. Has anyone here been personally affected by this? I have read that one member has witnessed it and wud 'pay' to see it again, allbeit for an extremely serious offence. Hopefully we can have a heated argument without any personal attacks so the thread can stay open So, do you have the death penalty in your country? Do you agree with it? Do you believe it is fair for one man to make a final decision on another man's life? How serious wud a crime have to be...and why do you think there shud be a threshold on the severity of crime? views please btw...i dont agree with it...no way, no sir, no how not for ANY reason I live in the USA so I have the death penalty in my country. Im on the fence when it comes to the death penalty. Ive been raised Catholic and as stated in this thread the church teachings on this is strictly against it. Most of the time I am against it, but in some really horendous killings I am for it. When some sicko murders a child it is really hard to think that they deserve to just sit in jail with all the friggen comforts of prison. It just drives me up the wall that these lousy creeps are living a life a lot better then many of us who work for a living and have not killed, raped, etc. someone. Perhaps if we were to change prisons so they they actually become a punishment crimes would happen a lot less. As it is today heck a lot of people commit crimes so they can go to prison as they lead a pretty good life in there. As wrong as it is if some sicko kills a family member of mine or a friend I would be for the ending of their life. I would just not be able to bare losing a loved one while their killer leads a comfortable life.

| Well again murder, and killing rears its ugly head........just a few points......... Religion.................My father told me as a child,if it wasnt for religion there wouldnt be war,s.........all men who fight these wars are from a paticular religion, and they kill???? A subgect brought up many months ago,and i dont wish to go into it again, but my daughter was brain dead with meningitis, we took the decision to turn off that machine, to give here a dignified death,a ventilator was keeping here alive...........does that make me a murderer...!!!! God............He allowed his son to be killed on the cross!!!!! The point of my statments is how we deal with it, we chose many years ago to let the law deal with it.......let them do there job........only my opinion...my family have delt with sick crimes upon them ,but i personally dont belive in taking a persons life, if there fit and healthy....there is laws in place, for crimes committed....they should be harsher...my own opinion again... As for murdere,s the law should be much much harder, and punishment to the max. |

the issue about the luxuries really pees me off. why is this done? why isnt a punishment system an actual 'punishment system'?? For the shoplifters, tax evaders, etc, ok maybe life shudnt be horrendous...but the cold blooded killers? i dont get that i get the rehabilitation bit, but not luxury part...but thats the fault of the prison system in my opinion, not the law ![]() |

| Some states do and some dont. dont ask me which do and dont. as for my out look on it i believe that the fear of such a penalty would control the masses a bit more. as for it being unfair to the family of the accused i find that to be rather foolish. just for the fact that the accused did what he did. he didnt seem to care about the family when he did it so why sould any one else care. |

| I think stepoff point about how much easier prison life is particularly for long term inmates is the reason why people are looking at the death penalty. Storys in the newspaper, and i do not work in the prison service so have no way of knowing if this is correct, of Ian Huntly having televison and video consoles in his cell make people realise that these criminals are not being punished. If criminals were treated like criminals and punished for their crimes, given sentences that match the severity of their crimes then i don't think so many people would look for the death penalty. Giving people who are poor prison sentencesfor non payment of poll tax and yet handing out small sentences to peodophiles just staggers me. Three things, get the punishment right life means life. Make prison tough not a holiday camp for criminals and lastly make them earn their keep then it wouldn't cost law abiding taxpayers so much money a year. Then maybe the criminals would wish they would bring back hanging.

| I too believe that the punishment should fit the crime. Too many sex offenders still on the streets. And they protect them in prison by not putting them with the general public. How would u feel Sally if it was your boys. How about serial killers that just get their kicks from watching people die. The system isn't perfect but why should the taxpayers have to support them when they don't even have their everyday priveledges taken away from them, they can get a education. They can get out in 10 years? Tough one! |

| if what was my boys? being put down like an animal? i wud be mortified.... or do you mean my boys being the victim? i dont say that criminals shud go unpunished...i just dont agree with ANYONE thinking they have the right to decide if a person lives or dies. why shud this decision be up to a man? because he went to law school and worked his way up the ranks?? that gives him permission to play God?? nope...not in my book... i believe prisons shud be prisons, stuck on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. i believe the prisoners shud be treated as the lowest form of life (go watch The Count of Monte Cristo)....i do NOT believe that any human being on this planet shud be allowed to decide who is allowed to breathe and who isnt...what if he was havin a bad day?! nooooo...who lives or dies shud be left to the Higher powers...not some little old man who dribbles his porridge every morning... |

| just a quick statement for those who were saying its cheaper to kill them then house them. im no exspert, but ive heard (in america) that with all the appeals, and the court time involved, that it is actully cheeper to just lock them up. if we made sure that prisons wernt big money makers for private companies, then maybe we would all have the justice we want, without haveing to stoop to there level and killing. and in my opinion (humble as it is) the key question is how do we fix it when we realise that we all are human and there fore make mistakes,if we have already put someone to death. sorry just wont cut it!!!! |
