Default Decisions decisions

Well, I've been offered a job at Barclays and am not sure what to do.

I've been self employed for 5 years now and the flexibility has been great whilst my daughter has been growing up. I decided a while ago I needed more security as she was now older, but it's a big change - especially as I don't like taking orders off other people, lol.

I'm also thinking about Roo's experience as my life is very comfortable at the moment.

Anyway I'm setting off for a week's holiday in a log cabin without any internet connection so will ponder things and make a decision with the help of my family (my real one, lol).

*oh my pokertime will suffer if I take it too.

Sandy, i made the change a number of years ago from self employed to being an employee.Yes it was hard,in the begining, but now looking back, probably the best thing i've done. When self employed, you have to look after your accounts, maybe book keeper and accountant, no sick pay no holiday pay, self assessment, and paying your own NI ,but the freedom within reason, to work the hours that suit to get the job done, which all seemed great at the time, and you get into the rhythmn of it and you do what needs to be done, and you sort of get stuck in your own little world !!When you take a two week holiday sounds great, but that is two weeks without wages, which puts you behind, and with all the best will in the world you never catch up no matter how hard you work, and there is always a chance the work may dry up !

Now working for an employer, the perks that are on offer, make you realise how much better off you can be,but not so much freedom, but holiday pay, sick pay, pension, private health care, company car, bonuses.Yes it was difficult, not knowing whether i'd like it and wondering if i had done the right thing, but i stuck with it,got into the routine and now wouldn't change it for anything. It gives me stabilitity and financially you know every month what you are getting ,so therefore easier to budget for things, and if you are good at what you do there is alway oppertunities for promotion, and wage increases (if your lucky).
With all that said, it doesn't suit everyone, fortunately for me i was in the forces and got used to taking orders,so that part was easy for me,others may not be the same. The grass is not always greener on the other side, but you never know how deep the water is,until you jump!!! It will be a Major change in you life if you go for it Sandy, but only you know what is best for you, good luck in whatever you choose

good luck. It sounds like a great opportunity. Go into it with that attitude, and you'll likely really enjoy it. And in the back of your mind have the comfort of knowing you aren't locked down if you don't like it.
