Derren Brown

For anyone who doesn't know who Derren Brown is, he is a mind control expert and illusionist. Brown states that he achieves his results using a combination of "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship". Using his knowledge and skill he appears to be able to predict and influence people's thoughts with subtle suggestion, manipulate the decision making process and read the subtle physical signs or body language that indicate what a person is thinking.

Last night, Derren conducted a live TV broadcast in which he suggested that he had successfully predicted the winning National Lottery numbers prior to them being drawn. During the broadcast a number of blank lottery balls were displayed on a glass stand in clear view of the camera, and after the lottery draw had been made, the balls were rotated to reveal the winning numbers. It was explained by Derren that the only other people in the studio were two camera operators.

Cant for the life of me figure out how he done this so have a look for yourselves and see if you can figure it out

Cheers mate i taped wrong channel ,huge fan hes a very smart guy,best suggestion/trick i remember him doing was at the dog races with losing betting slips and cashing them in..was incredible

i was thinking it's summit to do with the wee stand the five white balls were sitting on facing away from us and they were electronically put on right away before he turned them round if you get what i mean haha.

+ i was thinking why not when the balls for the lotto were mixing about he quickly turned round the wee stand his predictions were on so we can see it live like that, just like why did we have to wait until the lotto was drawn, he write then numbers down on a wee white board and then we see his predictions!!! still it was all live and very impressive lol

Im sorry folks but I am going to be completely cynical here and say this. Its entertainment and nothing else. There will be a "magic" way where the balls quickly change and we are under the illusion he has "predicted" them. And mind reading? Seriously? Its impossible. Until categorical proof is in front of me that someone has actually performed mind reading Ill believe. However Brown is very very good at what he does, which is psychological manipulation (or whatever fanciful term they use for it). A lot of things he does for example the answer is pre-determined or he leads people to say/do certain things. I was a bit disappointed hearing about him TRYING to predict the lotto numbers, its not really Derren Browns style if you ask me.

Anderson, I don't think anyone believes he 'magically' predicted the numbers. It was obviously nothing more than an amazing trick, part of me hopes he doesn't reveal all as that spoils the 'magic'.
Okay, let's think how he did it...
The numbers can't have been on the balls before the draw.
The picture was very jerky/jumpy.
So my guess (and it is just a guess) is that just after the draw the balls were switched using camera trickery (Derren doesn't normally use camera tricks though).
The switch being swapping from prerecorded balls to live balls with correct numbers on them.

Maybe but heres my theory... what if Brown got permission from lotto people and asked them to pre-record their show by a few minutes (obviously only a few minutes as Brown could tip off people, but only being a few minutes they cant buy a tickket) Then after viewing the proper live draw himself he quickly sets up his own live "replica" version whilst the actual draw is bradcasting alongside his. (but not actually live ) Like i said not really Browns style but i bet it looked good.

One of my thoughts as to how he did it is this: The system. On his show 'The System' he successfully made one woman win 6 horse races in succession and she ended up netting 13k for it. He later on in the show revealed that there were actually about 300,000 people all doing it and the laws of probability stated that at least one person would win EVERYTIME. So I'm thinking maybe he did the same with the lottery numbers, figured out some sort of system wherein the numbers he chose HAD TO WIN because of the laws of probability.

Anyway that's just one of my theories. Can't wait to find out though

i doubt it m8, there are millions of permutations, and he got them in the right order, plus he was coinsiding with the live show..

mate, they were broadcast at exactly yhe same time, you could flick between ch4 and bbc1, and was spot on jim, sorry mate, but derren is a very clever chap, we`ll find out how he did it later...

just heard on the grapevine that the lotto draw is always pre-recorded at 8.00 o cloc and not actually broadcast until later. Doubt if Brown will reveal he had a sneak peek at the numbers, i suspect he will no doubt come up with an elaborate "system" he had whereas we feel so bamboozled by it that we just agree that he is talented.sigh.
