the ethos of op66

sorry to be so negative about op66,but its been part of my life for nearly three years.
when i joined here it was because it was no download and free play,yes we had bad bugs and probs in the begining but that was due to being so popular we outgrew the site,i so miss the old days but progress made us move on,thats what bugs me most the ethos of op66 was the no download and free poker in a family fun site.
and like me others felt ready to invest money into the site and play cash games,the boss was always about offering support and free money to play often playing in the tourneys himself. i liked this and felt realy happy to be part of op66,the first meet up of op players soon followed and some great friendships formed.ive tried loads of different tournys to try and bring back that feeling and arranged a couple of meet ups to get that buzz back here.loads of players have put suggestions forward to try and improve our site,but nothings been done.
over 130,000 members now registered here how many play less than 1 per cent,members leaving for all kinds of reasons the site in my opinion is letting these members down by not listening to them on the forum,or just not answering there concerns in the forum.ive put up another thread asking for the boss to atleast log into the forum and post something but i hold no hopes of that happening.
op66 is still a great place to be,and im one of the lucky ones who has had no troubles on this script because i now download but thats one of the probs the no download players are still having probs,so how can we hold on to them and new members if we dont try to help.we need to sort the sngs out and get players out of the bingo rings and boost the forum to get this place back to where it used to be,that includes getting the chatroom back and running.
sorry for the rant and any newbies who read this.op66 was and i hope soon will be again the best poker site on the web.

I had never played poker before I joined here.
Googled "Free online poker no download".
BANG..... I was here.
It quickly became home because of friendly people on the tables.
Within a couple of weeks I was posting on the forum (had never even been on a forum before).
Playing poker and seeing forum posts from the owner of the site was awesome.
Then came the first party. OMG I'm meeting people I have only known online, scarey.
But it wasn't, it was brilliant and completely changed my views of online friendships.
And the rest is history really.

Can somebody please clarify this for me though. Was the first none download script worse than the current one? I remember some bugs, the lag and some downtime but nothing like what I and others experience now. And back then, both poker and forum were on one server with (I assume) alot less bandwidth, resources, and coding experience. What is the reason for the lack of progress now? Are there more people playing now? It appears not.

Another question, do any pro's play here or on the network? if not, why not? is it that bad?

However, I have some regrets:
Not getting in to cash poker earlier and depositing before the pitbull saga.
Not suggesting that we all donate to the site before the first switch.
Being rude on the forum a few times, sorry.

Tel, I think your post is very truthfull and you shouldnt feel like you are being negative, you obvious just care enough to share your opinion.
And requesting a visit from BL to at least say hello, isnt to much to ask, especially because of the time he used to spend here.
Your comment on the other thread about us all having to work but still having the time to pop onto the forum is totally correct.

As for the download version, it is not as good as most other poker site downloads.
So, apart from the people here, what other reasons would a new member have to sign up to OP66?

LfcFan . only pro that plays here is Bazultra. he pops in every once in a while. played on a ring table with him for about an hour and a half recently. look for him , a heckuva nice guy but be tight with yer chippies.

Yeah ya rite "heckuva nice guy", met him at the last Birmingham party and have spoke to him a lot on skype but didnt think he had played here in quite a while.
Seen some funny conversations between him and donks. He likes to speak out if he thinks somebody is playing/has played really badly.
IMO that is something lacking at OP66 and I would like to say a few things to people but know there would be an uproar and people would get upset.

gotta agree Tel , to me the old saying " if it aint broke ---dont fix it ! " applies here , the old site was friendly orientated with the ring tables for the bingo players , & the "sit n go " (cant remember the old term )for the tournament players , you had to wait to get on !! it used to drive me crazy seeing players on more than one table at a time !! , But we had people WAITING to play , & looking for certain players to play with !
Then we had the 1st party ! BRILLIANT !! (remember the Cons when we all met for the first time ?? )
even the forums were interesting , you could even have a row (discussion ) without being banned !! not just nicey nicey " happy birthday " threads !! (Michael Vittelli springs to mind )
these days the site seems to be struggling to hold on to existing members , never mind attracting new ones ,
sad to say (& I hope I`m wrong ) the site seems to be dying on its feet

That there lies the problem for me KC. I am not trying to have a go at you because I know the none download version is the only option for you.
Yes, it is great that we all love the site because of its members but the actual site (not the forum,not the OP66 name) is nowhere near as good as it was.
I can not think of a time on the original script where anybody complained about the actual algorithm, can you? can anybody? I can think of many times now that the algorithm comes in to question.
Yes, the server was overloading on the first script and could not cope and there was lag and sometimes we could not get a game at all. That was when there was no download version. Image us all trying to use the none download version now, who would still try and play now knowing everybody had the same problem? and if you got online, how many friends would you be able to play? next to none is the answer. The only reason we get to play our friends now is because of the download version. And the download version is poor compaired to practically every other site. Dont believe me, then please register on a few and tell me I am full of crap.
I think what Telboy is trying to put across to you all is that OP66 used to be about free poker and no download. That, I think, is how most of the longer servering members arrived here in the first place and what Blacklava has stated was the most important thing to him.
If OP66 is now about download and have free poker then it still doesnt match up to the mayority of other sites there are. Dont believe me, then please register on a few and tell me I am full of crap.
And all this talk about other sites not being fun, unfriendy and having dull chat is just rubbish. I have had plenty of laughs and chats on other sites and if im honest, it is far easier to chat on those sites than it is here with the pathetic chat box that is a few lines deep and that cuts out a massive amount of words unncessarily.

LOL smudge, I was thinking about starting a thread about how nicey nice the poker has become.
If I look at the old threads there were real poker players telling other poker players how bad they played a hand or a full game.
I reckon if a thread like that turned up now, there would tiers and bans.
Every hand that gets played now, has to come with a wp, nh, woop, even if somebody calls a x8 all-in pf bet with 73off.

Good onya Tel for your post and I very much admire the sentiment behind it. You have always been behind this site, as have a lot of others. I wouldn't say your post is negative. This post is also not negative, but sadly it is realistic.

This sites heyday has long since passed in my opinion and I don't believe it will ever be as good as it once was, which is a shame. As far as poker sites go is was unique in what it created, the OP community. It was also unique in what it provided to it's members, including ideas and suggestions actively sourced from the membership by Lava.

Lots of us have been asking specific questions and making suggestions for a very long time now, with the sites best interest at heart. These have resulted in ZERO response.

To me this is not really OP66 anymore, hasn't been for a while, if you know what I mean. It's barely more than just another poker site now, and compared to some, in terms of what games/traffic/reliability it provides it is well below average.

If it wasn't for the people I've got to know and regard as online friends I would have stopped playing here ages ago.

Oh well when it comes down to card etiquette then I am the biggest culprit, though I have tried to tone it down to the play on the table.

Yep nh,wd, whatever can be encouraging but also I understand can annoy those who are having a rough time or perhaps just want a quiet game!

I will try to blend with the mood of the table, but hey I like the good manners, it breeds good manners as well!

Some good points Tel but things are not gonna change here. Really don't care one way or another. Like this site soley for the ppl I have met over the years. That's what keeps me coming back. Have played other sites and maybe they have more things to offer. lol but you are lucky if you meet the same person once in a month. This site offers growing friendships, if you don't want that then go to another site and just shuffle up and play.I like Sapphire like to chat on the tables and won't appologize for that, if you don't want to hear us, and apparently someone told, one of the nicest people here to shut it, then turn off the chat cause we gonna chat anyways.

i think the ethos of op66 is still here,but restricted by our joining of the everleaf site,lava can not fullfill his idea of a poker site.
i just hope this is not the reason for his abscence,myself i admire the man for what he has given us here on op66 and would like him to do well in what ever he ventures into.
