Default Naughty parrot! help!

Hi all,

I went to a pet shop on Saturday to buy some more fish for my tank. Howeverere was a parrot there who looked very depressed and living in dirty conditions and what I beleive was a budgie cage. He/She has no feathers what so ever on the back and belly. After pushing the shop keeper to let us have him he relented and said we could take him home. Once we got home I was cleaning out his cage, there was at least 4" deep in old food and fungus!, and then I found MAGGOTTS!!!. Now he seems to have took well to my fella but when I try to hold him he bites me. Now, I have no idea what breed he is or sex although he is very small. We just rescued him cos he looked like he needed it, however we dont know anything about parrots or traing and so forth. I have an appointment at a vet this morning, but ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well dun4takin that parrot home, wonder how many other ppl had been in that shop n seen him/her obviously suffering?sick. The shop owner clearly just wants2make money out of poor defenceless creatures&isnt a animal lover,i shudder2think wot goes on behind the scenes.
Shame that parrot cant talk n stand up in a court of law2giv evidence against the shop keeper/staff.
As4the biting,he/she is probably still scared. We'v looked after a couple of stray cats n they act in a similar way, they'r not impressed by bein held or stroked(scratch, bite n hiss wen ya try),i dont think they ever fully trust humans after abuse or neglect but u can only do ya best2take care of them.
Hope ya lil parrot gets well soon n u find somewhere else2shop at.
