Default Need Help-heads up.!

Just wanted to get a few opinions from you all on how to actually
play heads up.Duke, fozzy, teebs and the rest of the gits please help out here..
Im putting this out as i think i'm lacking in knowledge on this front.
Starting 2nd Jan to today ive got 3 golds and 5 silvers in the 8 heads up ive got into(bad ratio)..just a point to note that i was ahead 3x on chip count and got silver in 3 out of 5 silvers i won.Two of them i had a very bad beat on the river including today in ny times.
Nevertheless something surely missing in finishing with Gold.
would appreciate your inputs here...

Best advice is play aggressive and remember the value of your hand is much greater heads up or shorthanded than it would be at fulltable. Hard to win heads up if your passive. I know this is basic stuff but youd be surprised how many great players at a full table dont win many heads up because they dont open up their game. Ok now lets get some real advice thats all I got lol.

agree with bbob: aggression. There are some players this is bad against though. Really, though, only loose passive players that call everything. Against tight aggressive loose aggressive loose passive etc aggression is necessary. This means raising more than half of your SB. It also means realizing an opponent misses 2/3 of the time on the flop and will give up to a bet a lot.

But if you are up against that never fold player. Bet for value alone until they get the picture and actually start folding, then you can do the aggression game. This is esp. important with a chip lead. When they start getting down to 6-11 BB though be ready for a shove over the top. Don't price yourself in without something floppable.

very general, but hope it helps. I know I started a thread awhile back promising a better guide, but I kinda got busy.

I agree with both the previous posts, especially remembering that 2/3 of the time your opponent has missed the flop.

Also, when you see your hole cards, bear in mind that J6 is an AVERAGE hand.

yes. and also keep in mind that it's much better raising J6 on the button than calling a raise in the BB

well another heads up in NY times today and ended up again with the silver..sorry to say but no respect for this opponent whatsoever as always seems to be playing any two hands and calling all ins.3rd time this week with the same player..heads up today NY times..i got raised by him with his 810 offsuit.i was sitting with AJ offsuit,i reraised him and we were all in..he clipped the 8.Made an aggresive move also knowing fully well im ahead of him as the last two times we went all in together was on following hands in two other tourneys-
1st instance-
my hand was AK(raised 2400 chips half my stack) and his was 73(he hit a 7 on flop and another on the river and i hit AK on flop)
2nd instance-
my hand was QK (i raised preflop1900 chips stack was 5000 chips and his was 26 dia and Q on the flop with only one diamond on board.i went all in he called with nothing only to hit turn river runner runner diamond.
based on my hand history with him,my call was he is simply a pure donk player..

My explanation is maybe he caught you once or thrice when u bluffed in a donkish way. So, your image in his eyes is that "you are a donk" Of course its not true. He has to check your medal count to know you're great player, right under tictalk. But, whoeever it is he/she played in a "luck box" mode.

every one gets on a lucky streak from now till then. It's unfortunate that the worst players are the ones that benefit most from it. For everytime this player beats you out of gold there are 10 more times they probably don't even make the final table.

Just keep doing what works and looking for ways to improve. You can do it.
