As a Mann U fan i think the Owen signing makes a certain amount of sense. The stats quoted speak for themselves and as he is on pretty much a pay as you play contract with bonuses on performance then United cant lose.

My personal opinion is that utilised correctly then he will be an important squad member.

I got a bit of stick from a number of City fans i know so i threw down this gauntlet

I bet that if Tevez ends up at City, he wont score as many as Owen will at Utd on a goals per games basis. There is £50.00 riding on it so makes sure you do the business Michael

The service he will receive at Man U he will be back to his goal scoring best. Man U is not Newcastle. A couple of games and he will be full of confidence. I can't understand why no one else tried taking him.

He is past his best. But that doesn't mean he will not do a good job for the mancs because at his best he was one of the best in the world. I think he will be a squad player and I would be surprised to see him in the starting line-up for half of Utd's games but he will do a good job. It has also been apparant that him and Rooney had a pretty good partnership whilst playing for England.

Having said that, there's been a lot of criticism thrown towards Owen from many Liverpool fans over this move. A traitor. I don't think he is a traitor. I think Liverpool are the traitors. Michael kept us competitive in the Premierleague and other competitions for 6 years and we showed him the door. The door could have been opened but we kept it shut when Newcastle bought him. Then again we had another chance to sign him before Utd, and it was financially viable, with Liverpool having trouble financially and in need of a striker, Owen was quite ideal imo, free and the wage isn't as high as many other players at the club. And with Owen being linked with the likes of Stoke and Hull then to be given an oppourtunity to play for the best team in England I'm not surprised that he chose them, I would have done exactly the same thing.

And let's be honest now, the thing at the forefront of Owen's mind is the World Cup. Carra said it in his autobiography. The reason Liverpool fans never seemed so affection towards Owen as they did and do towards himself and Gerrard was because he always put England first where as they didn't. I can't see that not continuing. I think the main reason for Owen joining Utd was because he realises it may well give him a lifeline in terms of international football. Plus the oppourtunity of potentially winning the Premierleague and Champions League for the first time in his career!

Despite it being quite an astute signing imo by Fergie, he is still in definite need of another striker, so many names being threw around though I couldn't say who I think it could possibly be.
