Default sad news

1st ever up here , The heartbroken parents of a teenage boy, whose unexplained death is being treated as suspicious by police, have made a public plea for any scrap of information.

It was officially confirmed today that the body found in a derelict building in Steinish, Lewis, on Tuesday is that of 16-year-old Liam Aitchison from Lochboisdale, South Uist.

Family members travelled from the Western Isles to carry out the sorrowful task of formally identifying the youth’s remains in Inverness. Post mortem investigations will now take place over the next few days to determine the exact cause of death.

The family, who are being comforted by a police family liaison officer, pleaded for people with information to come forward.

In a statement, the family said: “Today has been one of the most heartbreaking days ever, where we had to formally identify Liam.

“We would like to thank everyone for all the kind words and offers of support. “"We'd also like to thank the police and our family liaison officers.

“Most importantly we beg you if you have any information and have not brought it forward as yet we urge you please go to the police. Without this help we can't get peace."

Liam’s remains was discovered in the hidden disused property in the small crofting village of Steinish on the outskirts of Stornoway on Tuesday afternoon.

He had been missing for seven days and was last seen around the town’s Macaulay Road Co-op around 9pm on Tuesday 22nd November.

Officers searching for him found his body in an abandoned concrete hut on the edge of Stornoway airport. Evidence at the death scene sparked a large scale investigation.

Chief inspector Gordon Macleod said: “Formal identification has been made. I can confirm the body found in the property at Steinish is that of missing teenager Liam Aitchison. Our thoughts are with the family at this time. he was kicked to death and they cut his ear off

if the guilty be found........ punishment should be swift and just. and i do mean just. it should be as horrible and painful as possible. am usually a peaceful person. and the teachings of Mahatma K Ghandi say "an eye for an eye, makes the whole world blind". i disagree. and Ghandi probably never had to identify a loved one.

Unfortunately it is becoming all too common. This is the world we live in nowasdays. How are parents supposed to protect their children and loved ones?
No country, city, village or nationality are immune from the sickness that infects our world.

Tattmando: Guns are not the answer, Education is.
Our world is so crazy and there is so much poverty around. Today in Canda they said "make sure you lock your car doors, otherwise the thiefs will steal all the Christmas presents." What is the world coming to. I remember when we never locked our house door or we could walk happy on the street at night.
I hope they will find the guilty person and give him punishment what he deserves. The problem is, that the police often catch these criminals, but they have to let them go( is like catch and release)
My children are grown, but you with young children have to be on the ball.

TV presenter’s arrogant apology for death joke 7/12/11

Crass TV presenter Matthew Wright has further trampled on the memory of an island teenager by arrogantly scolding viewers wanting him reprimanded for making deeply offensive jokes about the boy’s death.

To loud guffaws, Tuesday's episode of Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff squeezed out a cheap laugh about the murder inquiry into the death of 16-year-old Liam Aitchison.

Discussing a reports in a national newspaper during a news review with panellists, Wright adopted a mock Scottish accent to minic TV Glaswegian detective Taggart‘s catchphrase “there’s been a murder,” as the show flagged up it was the first island murder for over 40 years.

Guest Charlie Baker quipped it must be the “longest episode of Taggart ever.”

The exchange did not appear to bother the show’s producers who saw nothing wrong with posting the show to a wider audience on its play-again internet page.

Channel 5 were not answering the phone this morning. But later, floods of complaints forced the broadcaster to pull the recording. And it also deleted hundreds of comments posted by angry viewers.

It included a number of comments added by Liam’s friends and family.

His father Norman Aitchison posted: “Would your panel members be making a joke of this if it was one of their own children.

“My son's death is no joke and i am disgusted with every single one of you on that panel.

“Let my son rest in peace love you Liam - shine on, you crazy diamond.”

Wright grudgingly offered a skewed apology on today’s episode and lashed out at people campaigning for broadcasting regulator Ofcom to intervene.

He said it was “not helped by people running campaigns “report Matthew Wright to Ofcom. I mean, grow up folks.”

A Channel 5 spokesperson said “Channel 5 and the producers of The Wright Stuff have reviewed the comments made in yesterday’s programme. Matthew has apologised in today’s programme making it clear that there was no intention to “belittle the seriousness of a tragic story, or offend anyone who knew Liam.”

After receiving numerous complaints, Ofcom is to assess the programme footage before considering if further action is required.

Two men have been detained and are in custody in connection with the death of Liam Aitchison said Northern Constabularly today.

Northern Constabulary set up a major enquiry team following the suspicious death of 16 year-old Liam Aitchison last week.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, have been charged over the murder of a teenage boy on the Isle of Lewis. The Northern constabulary said a report would be made to the procurator fiscal over the murder of Liam Aitchison, 16. Liam was the first person to be killed on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides for more than 40 years. His body was discovered by search teams in a derelict RAF building in the Steinish area of Stornoway on 29 November, a week after he went missing from home. Liam, who came from Uist, had been living in Stornoway for two months.
