Default swearing and our tos

this is from our tos.
You may not use our service portals to post, distribute or disseminate any defamatory, obscene, inappropriate or other unlawful material. This includes, but is not limited to posting trademarked or copyrighted information without express authorization from the rights holder; advertising products or services; Multi-Level Marketing; inducements to invest or transact cash business outside the specific business of the site. Furthermore, while it is recognized that this is a global site, it is the official position of the site owners and operators that the corporate language will be English. This pertains to play on the tables. Postings in the forum or on personal player pages may be in other languages, unless the content is deemed as violating one of the previous guidelines. Performing any of these acts on this portal may lead to being immediately and permanently removed from using the system. The IP address of the origin of all postings is recorded in the service database to aid in enforcing these conditions.
no mention of swear words here.
dont get me wrong im not for swearing on our forums, but some threads need to get a message across and i find this acceptable.
it only takes one person to object to get the thread closed,if that person dont like what they read just exit the thread.
i see loads of examples of swear words edited isthis not the same ,we still know whats said but dont object.
on the tables there are filters in place to edit swear words so other abbrev of the words are used.im sure we dont need that on our forums,we are after all adults here.
there are words used in the usa,and aus that mean something completly different here in the uk.which i consider to be swear words, but i dont object to these being used.
lets all lighten up swearing is part of life now,but used in the right context to get a message across is fine by me ,your views.
and if im wrong about tos please explain it to me thanks tel

Okay, I guess I'm going to put my head on the block again.

The ToS you have quoted are down to interpretation by the MODS.
I recall a Mod's post a while ago explaining that swearing on the forum was not permitted and this included mixing up the letters and/or asterixing them; the latter part of that seemsto have been relaxed.

I think you are wrong to say it only takes 1 person to complain to get a thread closed; it is the Mods decision whether the thread stays or not.

A couple of people have said if you find it offensive leave the thread and don't return, but one innappropriate word should not stop me returning to read the comments from other members. I like to know how other FMs are thinking, on this occasion it seems I am most certainly in the minority about using the F word, but that does not mean I am wrong.

Can I ask what's set this off Tel, I haven't seen anything in the past few weeks that has offended me so I must be missing something. Here in Ireland most people will use the word fecking in ordinary chat without considering it offensive. My neighbour is mid twenties lady expecting her first child shortly, she is the daughter in law of the farmer, my landlord, and she is a lovely girl yet she uses the word as normal, as do many in Ireland. I realise that it is a bastardised version of another swear word but they don't appear to worry about it. Modern times bring modern ways. Religion is a swear word to some of us.

hi cap,im sure your not in a minority about the f word.
but if the tos is quoted it should be in black n white about swearing.
if the word is directed at another player or member,i can see this as abuse, but used to discribe something dont mean abuse to me.maybe a a case of rewriting the tos,and this thread might help clarifing that area .

Yes, hopefully this thread will help clarify things.
There is very little, if any, swearing on the forum which I think is a good thing.
Looking at the ToS you quoted I would think swearing, especially the more vulgar words comes under 'obscene', which is not allowed.

Tel, I am finding all of this hard to understand, you dont like the word "B Word" (cant say I blame you there) but you you dont mind the F word? I fully agree with crinkles post and the point of it, but I am sure a protest can be made without using that sort of language on a public forum, do we have to devalue our own morals and respect just to get a point across these days?

There are members here who have complained time and time again about the same language on the tables and have asked for the people to be banned, and yet in this instance its ok to use the same offensive language?

I think the TOS covers it nicely in the first line..

If anyone can't get a point across in a PUBLIC forum without resorting to the use of expletives ( which is against the rules),
then there are plenty of free online thesauruses and dictionaries to help them expand their vocabulary...
The boundaries are set by the owners of the site and enforced by the Mods.
They're not "our TOS"...they are OP66's.
Simplez..

Telboy, I cannot understand why you have posted this.
You have instigated a discussion, which is being handled in an adult way.
The perception that your post gives is that because it is not going the way you like, you have stropped off in a huff - I'm sure that is not the case but you can see how others may think that.
Oh, and is this your dummy on the floor??

Wow...one swear word on the forum and some people kick off!!!
As Tel and others have said, the 'word' in question is used, probably too much i agree, in everyday life now wherever we live, and in all forms of context...some, and i know this will prob be soooo wrong to some, but in a 'fun' way too!...but i personally don't find it offensive anymore, unlike some other words that are used today.
I think the Mods or whoever set the TOS should, IMO, bring them up to date a bit, which i know will cause another barrage of posts...oh well!!
As for the use of asterisks etc, i think this is WORSE than the actual swear word because it actually 'encourages' swearing at tables etc because people can't get into as much trouble as if they had used the actual word in full!!!...GO FIGURE!!
The chat box itself i feel, also adds to this, as it actually 'picks' out 'unsavoury' words in normal chat which we type quite harmlessly fast at times to keep up with conversations at table...only to have it changed by the computer!...worse than the predictive txt on fones IMO!
I mean...what sad person sits and actually writes a reply to something in the table chat on purpose writing it so it will end up 'unreadable' anyway!!!!!
geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez, if this was stopped, and chat reverted to 'all' word chat, then swearing at tables would stop i think, as the person involved would be more easily be seen doing so.
Anyhoo.... thanks for the support..or not, and i just want to say...
I stand by the original post in it's context and i don't apologise for anything.

so let me get this right. thread was made with a word that under the TOS should be deleted. person that posted even suggested that they might get banned for it. thread gets deleted and there is a uproar? im confused as to what the problem is. also suggestions that the TOS should be updated. updated to allow swearing?

no, i don't think up-dated to allow swearing, but the use of some words are now used in so many different contexts...you should know that Dadds!

swear words dont offend me in the right context. what does offend me is we dont have the freedom of speech in our own country anymore, because of the worry of being politically correct.
