The Forum is a Family Friendly Forum....the poker tables are over 18 BUT the forum is open to anyone of any age,am i not correct?

ive seen alot ov swearin .. since banned .. and alot ov banns 4 swaerin could please esplain why ... why so extrime banns for sum ..and if its was funn swearin ... so ok .. or rules no apply ..if u swear tos rules.. as was said 2 me and was inforced.. so why not bann emm...but so would u hav 2 ban uselfs... we are not all perfect .. but we all hav a heart

It's very clear it is against the TOS. And as for updating the TOS, how old could they be? I mean it's not as if they were written half a century ago is it?

Don't get me wrong Crinkle or Telboy, I totally agree with the anger over poppy wearing issue. And I have no problem whatsoever with the use of the F word on the image being used to show that anger and disgust. For the record I'm 100% behind people being allowed to wear a poppy with pride, no matter where they are, but especially if they are in the U.K.

But that's isn't the question here. The question here is about the use of swear words on the forum. And like it or not they are not allowed. Now if that doesn't suit anyone I guess that's just tough. Personally I have no problem with the use of swear words in general terms. But we don't make or apply the TOS. The site and mods do. As users of the site/forum we agree to abide by the TOS. It's not a partial agreement, nor one that we can apply only when it suits us.

I understand and agree with the anger and passion over the poppy issue, but I gotta say I think a much smarter way to bring it to this forum would have been to start a thread which complied with the TOS, giving the authors point of view and leading to a discussion about this very emotive topic. For example the post here by Shezzabell which would have done exactly that

Rather than one which merely resulted in getting removed, then as a result of that another thread about peoples interpretation of the TOS and the use of swear words. Yes it's perfectly OK to have a thread about that, but if the original idea was to have a thread and discussion about the poppy issue then it failed to achieve that, resulting in this, which is far less important.

C'mon get real, it's not a case of whether or not you agree with the TOS, it's whether or not you abide by them. I've posted things on here before, and when posting wondered if they might be against the TOS, then found them removed because they were. Not much point me moaning about it is there because they didn't comply with the TOS which by being a user I agree to by default.

honestly sometimes im confused . i used to go out of my way to say darn and heck at the tables but some ordinary words in a sentence are full of asterisks but lately im aloud to say dam and hell now woo hoo

dont get me wrong im not for swearing on our forums,but some threads need to get a message across and i find this acceptable.
it only takes one person to object to get the thread closed,if that person dont like what they read just exit the thread.
i see loads of examples of swear words edited isthis not the same ,we still know whats said but dont object.
on the tables there are filters in place to edit swear words so other abbrev of the words are used.im sure we dont need that on our forums,we are after all adults here.
there are words used in the usa,and aus that mean something completly different here in the uk.which i consider to be swear words,but i dont object to these being used.
lets all lighten up swearing is part of life now,but used in the right context to get a message across is fine by me ,your views.

To answer your question Tel, I do not think we should swear using abbreviations or asterixs on this forum - this is just my opinion though.
I have to add that I am no prude, when I'm out with my mates naughty words may come out of my mouth, however there's a time and a place for everything.
Regarding "dont see the drama others are making about this", I really don't think that's the case; we're having a discussion about it, if anything the over-reaction is from those that object to being censored.

I have been out this weekend, did not see the thread that set this off but after reading all of the above post, I just do not get what the fuss is all about.

Rules are rules period. TOS should remove those threads that contain them irregardless of what was meant. Tel, you can't have it one way and then have it your way if the word is used in an okay context.

The biggest problem I see here is that certain words offend others while it might be acceptable to one. George Carlin once had the list of 7 dirty words not to be used over the air. While I am sure that there are a great deal of words that are not acceptable with different cultures etc, maybe TOS should list them as words not accepted on this forum or table chat. If damn and piss are on that list, so be it.

I for one have issues with friggen and fricken as they resemble the f word. I do not tolerate it with the people I am around. Call me old fashion but make sure you give me the respect due if I object to it. My father passed down to me was that he measured a mans IQ with the amount of swear words that came out of a persons mouth.

Seems like every year this discussion comes up with no resolve. Makes for a good read and makes the forum fun again for by-standers.

Be good all, thats all you need to do, it's simple, put a little thought into your words before your fingers type them out. Most of us are guilty at one time or another of saying something we shouldn't have.

I'm a bit confused about this. lol.
I didn't see the thread that I assume was Crinkle's and got deleted (?).
I haven't seen any drama either, apart from your and Crinkles posts here, hence the confusion.

My view on swearing is that yes, it happens all the time, but the question seems to be:- should it be allowed on the forum?
I would say no, given the fact that, as Crinkle says...she is upset by certain words.
That applies to most people, except the words that upset each of them may be different.
So how do we decide what offends who?
Well, the answer to that is, we can't because that is for the site administrators to decide.

Surely the only fair and equal thing is to have a rule that says none of those words should be used.
That way, there is no risk of offending anyone.

I personally am not offended by swear words in context. For example if you stub your toe on a chair leg.
As Shezz said, all things in context.

But if, for example, my friends mum had a rule:- no swearing in her house...
then I wouldn't go to her house and swear and argue with her that I should be allowed to.
It's her house!

The forum is not for adults only, and even if it was we have to respect that everyone has different views on what is acceptable.
So really, I would say that the forum is not the right context.

Drama... i didn't set out to cause a drama!
I posted a thread containing a message that i felt strongly about (not one that i produced myself).
It all comes down to 1 word.....and my argument is this:
Fair enough, forum is for people under age of 16yrs too, for which i apologise for with my post, but then on the other hand....if the tables are for over 18yrs only (supposedly), why is all our chat censored while we play?....99% of the time when people chat while playing, they are in a conversation that contains NO swear words when written, but thanks to table technology (i won't say what i really wanted to cos it's forum)we are all made out to do nothing but sprout profanities with all the *'s it picks out from our innocent chat!
IMO the table chat system 'encourages' this kind of chat because the players involved can't be seen as doing so like they could be if chat was normal...and i know there are those that do it!
But hey ho....

nice post crinkle and you make a very good argument for scrapping the stupid table chat censoring, but as much as I'd also like to see it scrapped I guess it's the same as the TOS, the site implemented it so we're stuck with it !

(I must admit though there have been some really funny table chats where a few of us used the *'s implying things about each other lol......oops no we didn't, forget I said that everyone!)

Sometimes things are posted in the heat of the moment, we understand that, I edit a lot of words here and there, most times I dont even PM the member, most dont even notice, some even say thankyou the next day, but really it all comes down to a little bit of common sense, sometimes I do just take the sting out of a word with a few *** and most people get the idea and most dont do it again..we are not here to go out of our way looking for every little thing...most times we just fix it and move on without a fuss...lets keep it clean and civil, that will keep 98% happy
