While it is not very good (i have seen my stocks decline by 1/3), no one is starving like in 1929. While we are driving less, I do not see anyone giving up their cell phones.
The worst thing is that our own government had a big hand in creating this problem and now they pretend that it is not their fault. They try to pass the blame on others.

While we see the stock market decline, houses forclose, banks struggle, and unemployment increase, we all have cause for concern. Both the US and our personal financial futures are of great worry.
I'm somewhat living in a bubble at the moment, as my personal lifestyle has not yet been severly impacted. Not everyone is as fortunte, but like BigA said, it does not appear that more people are going hungry or homeless.
I think the toughest part is the "not knowing" what's to come. We can merely hope that this crisis will be short-lived and the negative impact minimal. Only time will tell.
In the meantime, we can all try to help others as best we can.

funny jayccin, tell that to the people who wanted to retire-now they have to work another couple of years while waiting for their 401's come back. I don't think a lot of people positioned themselves like they should right 5-10 years before retiring. Lesson for all of us, make safer choices when you near retirement.

I do agree though that starbucks and caribou drive through lanes are still full and people are still eating out more than ever.

I don't think come november after our elections that everything will be okay.

On a brighter note, turn up the heat Jayccin! LOL it works

Yup economy down right sucks right now. My home town there are a lot of jobs out there but there are also tons of companies laying thousands of people off so it makes it that much tougher to get a good job. Most people I know even with four year degrees are stuck working crap jobs right now in my state(Washington state). Booooo, it just sucks, hopefully it will get better but I do not see that happening anytime soon.

Reminds me what one of my professors used to say, there's jobs out there.....they're Mac-jobs but they're jobs nonetheless.

WHAT IS THE ALTERATIVE. sell your stocks now at the bottom and get 60 percent of there value then give the goverment there share of the profits. then what wait tell its over and reinvest.
go do that and add to the downslide. right now all the bargain hunters are out there buying up all the good deals. this is their xmas time every october they go xmas shopping and get great deals on blue chip stocks. that were hammered by the panic.
