Default Violent video games

I wonder, watching violent video games advertised on T.V such as Assassin's Creede Viking, Scarface and the like, Would you let your children play these games. My opinion is that they can only breed violence. A youngster playing these lunatic games for hours on end must eventually think that this is the way to act in real life. What is the world coming to when kids as young as seven or eight play games where shooting people is a normal thing to do. I'd love to know how my friends on the site view these games.

well, as i'm still a youngster who grew up with such violent games i cant talk much lol

but, i think the age limits that are ahdered to the games sold DO have to be followed...purely because even at 7/8 they wouldnt understand the meaning behind some of what goes on in these games

e.g. I have Assassins Creed II on PS3

my little bro of 10 keeps wanting to play it

not because he thinks he likes it, but i reckon because I am playing it...

I let him have a go, he said was too hard and couldn't do it (after 5 mins...the game took me days to complete lol)

But in terms of violence behind video games, and the problems they face with little children, it's not a new issue m8

not sure if i've actually answered u, but, mehh lol

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm im soooooooooooooooooooo bad.....
Ive played assassins creed, all the resident evil games, manhunt, condemned and many other zombie slasher type games (my fave), and my daughter playes them too, but her faves are actually COD (all) and Halo (all) and she whips my butt at those!!
She has watched all the Saw movies, loves the new TV series 'walking dead' and my faves True Blood and the Vampire Diaries!!, and she is the magnificent age of 12 !!!!!!!
When i was younger than her, i used to stay up after my parents had gone to bed to watch all the old 'b' movies on tv, and my then fave 'hammer house of horror'....god i miss those days! .
My best memory was watching the Hitchcock film 'Birds' on holiday in Jersey one year....sharing a room with my sister and i made her watch the film in the dark, she nearly wet herself!!!! lmao (she was only about 8 but i was old at 10!!!! )

so i guess its 'in the genes' so to speak....like mother-like daughter!!!!

Okay but no one has answered the important question. Does the violence in our community stem from violent video games or is it merely a coincidence, I doubt the latter.

I think it's wrong to say the violence stems from video games, there are so many other influences out other than the games!

Maybe a tiny amount are influenced by it but to blame all violence on one source is a bit much in my opinion, films, tv programes, magazines, peer pressure, bordem and even the news could be influential!

i agree with funky, some might become violent from these games but not many in my opinion, peer pressure and gangs with booze and drugs playing a big part in most violnce today

Seems to be an sad declining circle, the more we see violence the more used to it we become, then we get desensitized to it, and the more violent movies, tv shows and the like have to be to get our attention, and the spiral of death starts again.

You watch a movie from the 20s or 30s and there is only the hint of sex or violence and you go "what was the big deal that is caused such an outrage back then", that is because we compare it to today and what is currently "acceptable".

That is so true Tex, I'm not blaming the problems on the streets wholly on video's, I just ask if they are good for young children to experience, surely they can not help. I accept there are many reasons for a kid of ten to stab another one in the schoolyard but watching violence hour after hour on a computer can't tell them, " this is not how to behave", I must be out of date, old fashioned, sensible, someone who believes it is bad to harm another person just for the kicks.

to be honest...

if you are a kid who relates violence from computer games to real life, and go around attacking people based on what you've seen in a game...u must be one pretty messed-up kid

maybe it's strictly down to parenting

Exactly on point, who is responsible for the child and how they are raised? Yes we are all in the same kettle where parents are working more to try and keep up, kids are strung out with 8 different activities, but who is stepping up to say "I am responsible for this young life and how it is molded"?

ummmmmmmmm im such a bad parent then!!, but my daughter hasn't shown any inkling of violent behaviour in the years she has played these games or watched this kind of film...but i suppose anything can happen when she starts to 'go out' with her mates and hooks up with others who are more 'inclined' to do wrong?

No you are a good Vampire mommy, you are in it with your kid, not expecting the media to babysit. WD.

i would probably blame advertising campaigns targeting peer groups with luxury items as a status symbol. before i would blame video games. even tho some are pretty raunchy.

It's all just different forms of entertainment. Some people enjoy watching horror and gore. Some prefer comedy or thrills.
I personally don't get any pleasure at all from watching death and destruction but it's whatever rocks peoples boats.
The Romans used to watch people being thrown to the lions long before video games were invented.
Human beings are capable of extreme acts of violence towards each other (ethnic cleansing for example) and perhaps the games and films just mirror that side of human nature..
These games are made by adults, not by children.I think one of the sad things is that children seem to be losing their childhood innocence at a much earlier age by stepping up into the adult - created (virtual)world of violence, death and mutilation.
We are mammals and, like all mammals we learn how to live by example. The early years of a child's life are the formative years when a child learns the fastest.
Their view of the world is pretty much entrenched by the age of 7,so the parenting is a major factor in development, but it isn't the only factor.Infant school teachers also have a part to play.Increasingly now, so does the media.
I agree with Tex that we seem to be becoming desensitised to violence through over exposure but that doesn't necessarily make people commit violent acts.
It may cause some people to more readily accept some of the atrocities that happen in the world though.
