A biologist’s perspective…
While a cephalopod versus a mammal is not something one usually considers in the studying the food web, it is certainly an interesting death match to consider.
Let’s see on one side you have amazing flexibility, ink sacs, and autotomising (self amputating) limbs, which are more than a bit handy in a tussle. Combine that with noteworthy intelligence for an invertebrate and you have yourself one feisty shape shifting opponent.
On the other side of the ring you have a vertebrate brain driving a short, heavily muscled frame with a low center of gravity. Add to that a locking lower jaw and you’ve got yourself one tenacious critter which is considered by many to be pound for pound one of the toughest critters around.
So, when it’s all said and done I’d have to say Mr. Badger would be sharing calamari with Mr. Toad, Mole, and Rat in Toad Hall. Unless that is the eight armed opponent happens to be the extremely poisonous blue-ringed octopus which has a paralyzing neuromuscular venom powerful enough to kill a human in minutes. In that case my money is on the slime ball!  |
