Had he played 7 2, 8 3, or 9 4, then yes i would probably accuse him of donkey play. However 6 7 OS is a playable hand, little connectors are always good to play every once in a while seeing as u probably would have 2 live cards vs any paint cards. However if he would have missed the flop, and called off a bet to hit runner runner or something, then i would still accuse him of donkey play :P But hey, thats just my opinion.

The bingo merchants are soon found out and rightly so but our friend who won with his 6 7 is still accused of donkey play. Donkey or not if he wins with his gamble then why not.

Now having said that, a J - 2 os would be a far stretch even for me.

Anyone who is more than half awake must have had moments when they have won with any hand at all, this usually lasts for maybe ten hands, you must make hay while the luck is with you, that means betting with whatever hand you're dealt, when the luck stops you back off. in reverse you can be dealt premium hands on the trot and lose with them all. If we expect the best hand to always win maybe we should show before the flop then the losers can fold, how boring would that be.

what gets forgotten sometimes is that no-one knows what the other player is holding...it's a game of bluff and counterbluff. If I think someone is trying to pull a fast one I'll call, even if I have only an inside straight draw.Obviously if you think someone genuinely has a good hand there's always the fold button.I've tried bluffs that get called and then I've hit lucky on the river..or gone down leaving me with egg on face.(lol)
call me what you like just don't call me late for dinner..

Tel, you have to ask yourself how you learned your poker skills? I would guess that a great deal of that knowledge was gained by experimenting. I am still experimenting and of course I use the free tables to do that as should everyone. Very often I find myself getting into a playing rut. I lose interest, my playing skills actually decrease over time when I allow myself to stay in these ruts. Therefore I often force myself to do different things. My goals are not always to win the tournament. Sometimes I force myself to play every hand regardless of the cards and concentrate on how I bet. Other times I concentrate on reacting to others actions. Sometimes I just don't care and even wonder why I am playing. Lately most times I want to play a tournament but I really don't want to play for the 3 hours required to win. I guess I should just not start something I don't intend to finish. Bottom line; it takes all kinds of circumstances, moods, and personalities to make a tournament. A good player like you should require yourself to cope. It's part of the Game. Enjoy the diversity it provides. You know that Q K will beat J 2 most of the time. You also know that Q K will not always win. Maybe what we need is a good game of 2 card guts every now and then.

Fred, understand a lot of what you and Stern are talking about. Been involved in small cents games when two players decide to go all in on what is nothing to us....... I try to stay out of it until their "fun"is over but sometimes you have to let your stake go just to stay alive.

Played a 10$ game and got lucky twice in a row but because I played to make up my previous loss on a small table, I got out of it quick before my comeuppence was reached.

I'm learning about cash play and players, there are some who will give you a fair game of poker and take what comes their way, which I enjoy very much, no conversation but good steady poker.

There are others who play with such aggression, grrrrrrr it annoys the table.... to the point where someone takes them on .......hopefully wins but innevitably loses.

So you are all so much better players than I , knowing the odds is a big thing. Some play to the river, some to the turn and some only to the flop depending on their hand.

Whatever your style of play, I wish you good luck in the coming year and trust that fortune comes our way!

xxsymxx

Somehow, this doesn't surprise me coming of you, m8.

I'd rather say that it is a game of information processing and manipulation.

You try to get people to do what you want, which can be to call or raise, not only fold (as in case of bluffs).

Actually, bluffs have to be rare if you want them to work. So a game of bluff and couterbluff is by very far the exception, not the rule...

I have to bow to your wisdom stern..as you know,I reckon you're the best player I've seen.
I can't say too much about my take on a game cos I don't want to
give you any more ammunition for the next time we meet.
I just remembered reading that description of poker in a games book I had as a kid lol.It was something like.."an exciting game of bluff and counter-bluff, is your opponent just pretending?"
Talk about bad influences for the kids of today lol

@sym

Since I am indeed a gentleman, I prepared a minute crash course for you on information processing and manipulating.

But of course it ended up being rather long, and since open school is more fun I posted it as a new thread in the strategy corner.

@panda: thanks for the compliment, m8.
