Heads up in wombats (still a tourney i've not won) with the lovely MoonPiee, congrats on the gold hun

You could argue I was lucky to even win a medal, surviving an all-in when I was pretty much automatically so with 53 in hand

But this is rediculous.... I had this hand won, she was the one all-in here with just a 2-outer to save her... I was ecstatic when I realised I made the right move, and the right read, and supposedly trapped her

Eh well, same happened with jazzsinger, so i guess it was fate eh

ONE DAY!!!!!

also, congrats to minky for 3rd

kwak

p.s. give the duck a break, poker gods, i stayed up all night for this >.<

Hard luck m8.
It could be argued that Moonpiee had 2nd top pair and was guaranteed silver medal so had nothing to lose.
Also that 9,7 suited shud've been folded pre-flop.
BUT gutting when you're waiting for the gold.

well done friend.close yet so far..guess not far from fetching the gold one of these days.good enough for that m8.
had a similiar situation if not worse with RockDiva. last 3 players in hetmans two days ago.
Rockdiva had Q9 OFFSUIT and i was big blind with J5 OFFSUIT.
FLOP WAS J53.
I RAISED 4000 CHIPS ON THE FLOP WITH MY TOP TWO PAIR.ROCKDIVA CALLS.
TURN IS A 9.I GO ALL IN WITH MY TOP TWO PAIR ON FLOP.
ROCKDIVA CALLS MY ALL IN WITH HER 9 PAIR SHE CLIPPED ON THE TURN.
SHE HITS THE QUEEN ON THE RIVER.
SO NOTHING ON THE FLOP BUT TURN AND RIVER GIVES HER THE TWO PAIR.
THIS FOR SURE MOTHER OF A BAD BEAT IVE HAD IN A LONG TIME...I GUESS WE WIN SOME AND LOSE SOME..PART OF THE GAME M8...I FORGET THE AA;S IVE GOT KNOCKED WITH SOME REALLY CRAP HANDS...BUT I GUESS WE TAKE IT IN OUR STRIDE..
nevertheless good luck m8.always a pleasure to play with you..keen games..and respected player..take care m8..rgds jazzsinger

probably would have folded the 9/7 as well, but its really hard to say, sometimes ya get that gut check and ya gotta go with it.Thats the thing about preflop,ya really dont know whats comin, you scored well enough on the pre flop to play it out though.

ohhh Ducks...didnt anyone tell ya..97 only works for angels its the Angels poker hand not the ducks..stick with your 22

I would have maybe called the 4k and checked and called the bet with no reraise...with only one over card on the flop for moon..whats the chances of you having the nine???

Far as i'm concerned i played it right... think about it

The call preflop with 97 (suited or otherwise) is value when HEADS UP... I had substantial chips to back it up in case I never hit and was forced to fold, I wouldn't have been harmed too much

I hit the flop, and put moon on 2 over cards (e.g. AK or similar) so decided to check - all-in her, which worked perfectly. (ok so i never quite read her right, but as it happens her having 66 was better for me than AK, as she had even less outs to hit... her odds to win this hand was <5%, so go figure)

UNTIL HER CALL ON MY ALL-IN, MOON PLAYED IT SPOT ON... RAISE PREFLOP, AND A CONTINUATION BET ON THE FLOP AFTER MY CHECK WAS WHAT I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE DONE TOO... BUT WHY CALL MY ALL-IN? DID SHE HONESTLY THINK HER 66 WAS AHEAD? OR DO I HAVE A REPUTATION FOR BLUFFING, AND SO SHE "READ ME" FOR NOTHING AND FIGURED WAS AHEAD WITH HER 2-OUTER? <-- (Am I known as a bluffer??? please tell me )

In heads up you gotta be agressive... all the above posts about folding preflop and playing conservative... in my opinion... I'd love to play against you guys

I forced an all-in with a hand that was pretty much dead... so tell me, what did I do wrong, again?

------

All this may seem like i'm snubbing you guys. I must apologise for this. I value all of your opinions, otherwise I wouldn't bother making the threads I do from time to time.

Anyone who knows me a bit more personally will know I am highly competitive, and the person I challenge more than anyone else is myself.... because if you can't better yourself, then who can you better?

End of the day it is all down to luck. What can any of us do against the fall of the cards? The poker gods favoured moonPie today, and i'm happy for her

Thanks everyone for your comments, my apologies again if I seem a bit gittish with all this

kwak

p.s. Sorry for over analysis, but I just felt i had to express my point.... The name of the title suggests a sense of irony, perhaps lol

As far as I am concerned you played perfectly Ducks. Definitely not a great pre-flop hand, but in heads-up I've probably played a lot worse.

However MoonPie also played perfectly. From her point of view she has a pocket pair with only one overcard.

Yes she only has two outs, but at this stage of the game I wouldn't be thinking about that. I would be thinking "There are only three cards beating me, what are the chances he has one?"

To me you were just unlucky mate, no bad play on either side.

Yes I agree, I think the thoughts behind both plays were sound esp in the HU situation...

Hey Ducky
Well, It was a great game. I have always enjoyed playing with ya and think your awesome. At this stage in the game, with that particular hand, it was really anybodys. I raised pre-flop with a slightly better starting hand and then you hit your nine. I really didn't think you had a nine and I was committed to my hand (as were you). I was putting you on an AK, AQ, AJ, etc. I might have had a slightly better hand starting off and it came down to both of us sucking out on each other at different stages. I happend to suck out last. I took a gamble at this spot not believing you had anything on the board. I am usually a very conservative player and have only been playing here for 2 months and I have learned I needed to be more aggressive. This was one of those times. I defintely don't think it was a "words just aren't enough" kind of hand but then again we can agree to disagree. I had a great time, good fun and what I believe to be good poker on both sides. I truly enjoyed playing poker with you and hope to again at some point. Take care and hope there aren't any hard feelings. Moon xxxx

great converstaion - only thing I would have done diff is, I would have went all in pre-flop if I was moonpiee. then, either you would have called and she would have won like she did or, you would have folded and we wouldnt be having this converstion ;-) --- I will say this though, if you had called all in pre-flop with 9/7 and she had won, it would be viewed diff.( kind of in a -- I understand why she won, kinda way) Either way it was a great game and the coin landed on moon that time.
