Default curious why theres lag and stuff

can we be givin a technical explaination why there is lag and disappearing cards and why tables dont load? i mean i know that personal computers and the way that MOST people dont keep up with maintainance and updates from their companys software are definitly a problem here as they are everywhere but the site is guilty too lol and i am just personally curious as to why. i would like to maybe learn something about servers or multiplayer websites or any technical things that i would probably find interesting being the ametuer computer tech that i am hahahaha. anyway can an awnswer even be givin? JUST WONDERING thats all

The lag is there to fold every decent hand that I get. And it seems to do a good job at it.

Thats all I know.

Every thing is being checked out to find the problem and as soon as we know the answer we will be happy to pass it on. Please be patient while the matter is being looked into.

GOOD LUCK!

I have a brand new mac book pro. State of the art computer so i can assure it has nothing to do with peoples computers. it is to do with the server.

It could be because Java runs slowly. OP66 runs on Java doesn't it?

Lag happens when the server can't deal with all requests at once, and makes them 'queue.'

Say for example, the server can deal with 400 simultaneous people attemping to log on at once.
If 450 people try it, then 50 of those people will have to wait a small amount of time extra so that the initial 400 can be dealt with first.
Those 50 people are lagging behind as such.

You get disconnected (lag time out) when the server realises it cannot deal with all the requests in a cycle. Rather than slowing itself down to snail pace, it simply just doesnt bother dealing with a few of the requests.
Sounds like bad practice, but is actually extremely efficient.

The only way to fix the lag problem is to increase the processing power and memory speed of the server, or lower the amount of people playing at once.

And no, it won't be because Java runs slowly.

Robbie's answer above is technically correct for most servers, however it is not completely accurate here. Your question MV is one that has been asked several times. The reasons that an answer has not been posted is that the answer is still being formulated.

If you only look at hardware constraints, then Robbie's answer is dead on. There are other elements of the site that come into play in this case and, as I am sure everyone is aware of if they have ever tried to get tech support on their own PC or Mac, every element that adds to the equation adds a huge level of complexity.

In this case you have flash programming running concurrently with java programming, along with a proprietary database and a massive play database all running on multiple servers. So I hope you can see why this is not a simple issue of rebooting the server to free up resources.

I realize that most players, especially the short term players, don't want to hear "we are working on it, please be patient" but that is the actual answer. It is being worked on.

For those that are long term players and remember when we only had a few tables and even then you waited hours for someone to play the high rollers tourney once a day, Thanks for growing with us!

Great Post Robbie, and excellent response Tex. Everyone has been impacted by this issue and it is most definately a shared frustration. It is comforting to know that it is being dealt with. Thanks for the update

i would sa our sorta correct and not, just throwing more power at something wont alwas fix it. But its what i would do so i am with you buddy

all i can sa is, i'm back :P here to anno ou once more. well i am with that other guy we need more power. it is sever and power based and i sa this for one simple reason, if ou look at another ver widl popular more so then op66 game that is much more intense on severs then op66 it must be runescape. This game is java based mainl and it alwas runs sweet as a nut when i have used it. admittedly it is sad i do play but meh, nothing better to do :P the reason the game runs well is because there are alot of severs and the severs are good spec. get some new dual xeon severs and see if that doesnt make a difference

o btw my "y" key is very sticky and broken so i ma have missed a few y's mi bad
