Hi Miataguy heard you had some problems with the 1.6 DOHC. check the crankshaft pulley has not come loose, disaster if it comes off completely, also this problem could be air leak at inlet manifold or any of the inlet joints. use a water spray can and spray around gasket area, if the revs lift and stabilise briefly then you have a leak sucking in air, you can sometimes see the water being sucked in. check out your plug leads and plugs.
