Default Heads up

So I've been on here a while and do ok however really struggle when I get down to the final pair. I'm not sure what sort of % you would expect to win games when you made it so far but would think mine is around a pitiful 20%.

I've tried various methods but cant seem to master any - even when I get good hands I still seem to lose

So has anyone any tips for playing heads-up? It can't be lottery that it seems when I'm playing - lol

Aggressiveness is the key for sure. Hand values go up when you are in heads up play. Any A is very strong. I have a certain hand value that I raise with, heads up. For instance,J-10 or better, heads-up, I raise. I can not tell you what combination it is, but you can choose your own. If you have done any reading on heads-up play you may have discovered it!See what works for you

And that said I go and win two on the trot lol!

However I can't say I really changed my game - I just got a string of decent hands.
How do you play when you get a of hands that aren't that good eg - 7 8, 10 8, J 3, K 2 etc

Finding the best strategy will largely be determined by three factors: your chip stack relative to your opponent’s, the blind size relative to your chip stack and observation.

There is no single approach to the final table that is universally effective. If you’ve used a tight –aggressive style to get this far then a lot of what’s got you here is going to have to go out the window. With only two players at the table, every hand you’re dealt that is above average is probably a winner – the higher above average it is the better it s chances of winning. The vast majority of hands are going to be decided either before or right after the flop and the ability to steal your opponent’s blind is critical.
By the time you’ve faced off against your head-to-head opponent you should be pretty familiar with his game. After all, you’ve spent a lot of time at the same table by now. This is very useful, though it’s critical to remember that everything changes when a table goes head- to- head. Specific tendencies like bullying may disappear because the table situation has changed, but deeper characteristics are likely to remain the same.

Use the first three to five hands to make as many observations as possible and take note of any new tendencies that may appear, then use them to counterattack.

I've made the last 2 of the multi table tourneys 12 times and never lost one yet, but usually if I have made it that far I am chip leader.

As Bob says, for me the majority of my betting is before the turn. Playing aggressive there is the best way to maximise your chances of winning.

Three options:
1. Fold and run away and cry like a 4-year-old girl.
2. Become extremely lucky (takes years of practice, I swear it works though)
3. Be aggressive or bluff- this one's for you! Bet more than the others can afford!

having a bigger chip count always does help when it comes to heads up, so i would too say be aggressive.

But luck can play a big part too. only last night i was heads up in th 40k tourney with sum1 (forgot his name, sorri) and the amount of all-ins we had were just...stupid! at least 7, we were up and down until there was less than 200 between us, me being the short stack, and i won the all-in-- leaving him with somat like 145. But he won 3 all-ins in a row, and almost 4 but i hit a lucky river which won the game...just lol.
