Lets fix the cancelled tourneys

Wombats and Hetmans both cancelled today due to lack of numbers, mmmmmm not good is it.

Any suggestions as to what might help attract more players so that the OP daily games run, and so that we also have healthier numbers ? I know we've been down this road before but there's no harm in trying again.


Please don't post here about poor standards of play, bad beats etc because we've had those discussions elsewhere on the forum.

What ideas can we come up with that we might ask the mods to propose to management. For the benefit of the site and all of us who want the tourneys to not only start, but be challenging and provide an enjoyable game for all.

Maybe vouchers to a money game. Vouchers for $1, 50c and 20c double ups for the top three spots?

Maybe a much much bigger prize fund? That doesn't necessarily have to mean a higher buy in does it?

If the prize fund was increased to lets say 250,000 but in order to do that the entry fee had to go up to 20,000, new players who may not have 20K could be sponsored by us. We could ask for vouchers to be made which players can use to enter the tourneys, then we buy the vouchers with our free chips and sponsor new players. That means they wouldn't have to hit the rings and learn bingo before they dipped their toe in the tourneys with the wrong idea about tourney style of play.

Maybe have an adopt a newbie program, sponsor a new player to enter for a certain number of times?

Maybe canvas all the regulars and tell them if they enter I promise not to irritate them by chatting at the tables for a month

Dunno, just tying to come up with something to fix an increasingly frustrating trend which is worsening.

The disappearance of Medals and points isn't helping I'm sure, but the problem has been worsening for a while. I still think the late registering crowd should watch the thing and forego the advantage to ensure the tourney goes ahead. Adding a free entry to a cash game must help and, as the Brit Bookmakers found out, offering a carrot, ie, free bets, draws in the punters. Someone involved in running the site should take a punt and try to improve the set up.

The medals and points is just an unfortunate temporary issue Fred. I'm sure some people may be put off by that but the reason has been explained by Aus in the relevant thread.

I get what your saying about late reg, and although it can be used strategically at times in the right tourneys, I honestly don't think there is much advantage using it that way in the daily's. Especially the way they are played. 20 mins in they may only be 4 or 5 players out and apart from maybe 1 player most peoples stacks are still within spitting distance of each other. Not that I would condone spitting lol ! In the money tourneys it's a lot different to that from what I've seen, but point taken mate.

I do think the carrot idea would be worth trying though.

The regular tournaments I play, usually there is a few minutes of panic waiting to see if we get the 15 players minimum. When the quota hits 15 and the game begins there are usually at least 10 other players join after the game starts. I honestly believe the answer is to stop the late registration that way players will join before the game begins.
Just my opinion but I am sure many will agree.

again...those of us who HAVE to work and not have the pleasure of playing almost 24/7 like some on here, and get home just before or after the start of Hets for example, and use the late reg when we can/want to play, are made to feel like the bad guys!!!, if it wasn't for us when we do get a chance to play, then the tourneys will be played even LESS than they are now!

perhaps another poll for possible time changes. as is the only OP turney i can make is the NYTimes. unfortunately i have to reserve myself to the fact that if i play, i hafta throw sleep out of the equation lol.

I do work, a minimum of 12 hours every day. From home and more than 9-5 from the office.

No one is pointing fingers or accusing anyone of being the "bad guys".

i tottal agree with u sharon hunn wats gona happen in end tourdy ..with 10 players and 3 r mods .. not be ,ing nasty but bannin 4 life is not the answer ...i ve seen sum great players banned over silly squables .. he said she said..as u said players r terrified.. 2 talk its just a game.. we all vent off at time s ...its never personal..lol dont think trophy 4 a month will help.....i ve bin here longer than a month were ,s mine lmao

maybe 1 idea for debate could be to change the registration period from just 2 hrs before to longer, but how long would people think is acceptable 4/6/8 or even 24

however this would re-open an old can of worms about people complaing about people "sitting out" just to collect points

in 1 way it would mean most(probably all) touraments would start, but then there will ineveatable be loads of "sitters" not there.......

some will reg with all good intentions of playing, but sometimes people have to change plans at last min and cant

ok cant see late reg as a problem, some players yes like to use it as an advantage to join late, other use it because thats the only way they can play it because of commitments.

and if some 1 is using it as an advange to join late and tournaments are being cancelled, dont u think they have the common sense to check in time(before tournament has began) to make sure its goint to start ???? before deciding to use late reg as an advantage ???

hmmmmm ok u can probably count on 1 hand the amount of players who have recieved PERMANENT bans who played the OP66 touraments regulary

so to use that a reason is farcical in my humble opinion

if not banned 4 life how can they not return ???

and at the end of thr day they MUST have been banned for a VALID REASON, so if they return or not is there choice surely ??

I don't know if re-instating any banned person is the answer to the original question Stevo posted.

Would it be possible to lower the minimum number of players to say 10 or 12, and keep the late registration? I would expect 5-10 minutes into the game there will be 20+ players?????
Could that be done?
