Need help with something

if there are 3 players left in a mini tourny and all players are all in. one player has chips left but the other two players have bet all. then the player with chips left wins the hand. the game is over. what determines who gets 2nd place??????. im asking because i thought that the player who won gets 1st and the players with the next best hand wins 2nd and the player with the worst hand gets third. in the situation that happened to me i had the least amount of chips about 1000 the player who won had the most about 4000 and the player who got second place and has a lesser hand than mine but had about 1000 more chips than i did at the beginning of the hand got. could it be that the player that had the second most amount of chips when the hand began is supposed to get 2nd place. OK if i just answered my own question can a mod plaes verify that for the sheriff. i would appreciate that you guys. 2nd and 3rd are determined in this case by the amount of chips they had prior to the all in.
