Default So who thinks this is OK?

I'm posting this is because I think it's worth showing an example of what I think is unacceptable behavior, during a 'friendly' game of poker on this site.

The words may have been abbreviated, but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out what was said. I'd just like to know what others think before this post gets removed.

Don't get me wrong, I can be as foul mouthed and rude as anyone if I have to. But there's a time and a place for that kind on behavior. In my opinion this site isn't the time or the place.

I wasn't offended by the comments, but it irritated me enough to post about it, because there may be plenty of people who use this site who might be offended if it was aimed at them. As it happens no-one on the table seemed to be offended. In fact it prompted quite a bit of micky taking, but that might not be the case another time or on another table of players.

If I get in to trouble for posting this so be it, but unless these things are made public it will just allow the standards of this site to decline.
So I'm naming the player instead of all the usual stupid tip toeing around doing so that often occurs on this forum.

Skippydylan, next time I'm on a table with you don't bother chatting to me. I said GG to you when you went out and I meant it. If you can't handle losing a game without being abusive then maybe you should play snap instead of poker! And yes I wasn't nice with my reply but you drew the line in the sand. I won't say what I think about the way you play poker, that's up to you, but I'm not going to be abused and just ignore it.

The 1st hand is the one that prompted the remarks made during the 2nd hand.

ok stevo was dumb call with such bad cards but we all do that at times
to abused for your play is totally wrong
if people cant be civil shouldnt be here
as you know i play high stakes high risk style if it doesnt come off it doesnt come off no point abusing others if you cant take it
point is if people cant handle losing thats their problem shouldnt take it out on others

Direct unacceptable insults happened to me a few times and I didn't report, out of too-much-busy-ness mostly and a feeling of sadness for the insult-makers.

And I usually was able to make then totally risuiculous on tables with witty humiliating comments (ond of course table backup)

My idea was to report if I met the same players again and if they behaved the same. But I never met them again. For my own good, theirs and I am sure the site as a whole.

I abosutely think such miserably mediocre behavior has no place here and idiots doing so should be banned for a long time (and on second occurence for ever) after being explained the gentleman-like conventions that we all love and agree upon, given a chance to realize and change their ways.

Who knows where they have played before, and it might not be entirely their fault, since some places are gutter-like.

I would like to add one point if I may. I try and be polite to all players but I am an emotional person and super competitive due in part to my manic disorder. I sometimes jaw a little when I take a bad beat but I try not too make it personal and if i feel ive crossed a line i appolagize. Recently ive been getting critized for playing too tight with comments about me folding too much. You are entitled to say what u will and i do play to tight at times but if you make a comment toward me or my play im going to respond and sometimes others take this as me being combative im sorry but its just in my nature. My point dont dish it out if you arent ready to get an ear full lol

BBOB I have played you only a few times and never noticed anything special, except rahter good play.

I am a though cookie, and nothing much can harm me verbally (or physically for that matter though I hate such occurences, being a believer in non-violence).

I do appreciate gentleman-ness and hold that self-control and respect are keys elements of poker (just as a strong table presence through chat / verbal interactions are important... within the scope of politenenss).

But we all make comments that might not reflect what we really think, and example from yesterday:

Yesterday I was booted out 4th place of BC with two hands almost in a row that were very lucky for my opponent (twice the same opponent).

I wrote somwthing like "disgusting twice in a row" and then wished a general good luck for final medals and left.

After leaving I thought that my comment might have been misinsterpreted as I was not speaking to stu directly but was commenting on odds.

I wasn't even angry, just flabbergasted at my bad luck (well I had one hugely lucky hit earlier, so...)

Anyways, if you know you have a tendency to get heaten-up, may be it is wise to tackle it as a form of meta-play "tilt" and wait a little while and a good breathing before posting things you might regret later.

I find it very hard to understand people giving abuse over a game of cards.
Nobody was hurt and as i understand it this is supposed to be fun.
I do understand being competitive and wanting to win but there is still a lot of luck in this game and we all get good and bad.
The people who i have played against in tourneys seem on the whole to be very nice and good sports when the dreaded bad beat hits you.

Manners cost nothing unfortunately some people do get abusive and it does leave a very bad taste in the mouth but Stevo you know how respected you are on here and on the tables just ignore it.

Thanks for the feedback all. It honestly didn't get me down. The fact that I posted about it was to highlight it and make the point that it is not appropriate. After all, the whole point of coming on the site is to enjoy playing the game with other people, is it not?

I think it shows a lack of respect for the site and it users, which is the reason for my post.

Like others I play on other sites too, and it is not unusual to come across people who feel the need to be abusive. My usual response is to bait them with sarcasm without being rude. Most of the time they get more wound up and tilt and I find it both amusing and pathetic.

Saladdodger and cuddycat thanks for your comments. I find you to be the same, as are the vast majority of the players I meet on here.

Bob I have to say I have never found you to be abusive and completely agree with what DarthYoda and SternSwiss have said about you.

As far as reacting to a bad beat go's let me give you an example of one of my many bad beats. I slow play a hand and hit a straight flush on the river. Before the river I had Ace 2 3 4 6 of clubs. The 5 came on the river and to make it even better the player before me raised heavily. I went over the top of him and went all in. He called me and just when I though 'yippee' I saw that he had the 7 of clubs. So he had the straight flush 3 to 7 and knocked me out of the tourney.

Of course I wasn't pleased but I wasn't annoyed either because as far as I was concerned I'd played it correctly. I'd squeezed more out of the hand by keeping the other players live and built a nice sized pot. The other player had the better hand and I had a bad beat. My response was "wow unreal, whats the odds of that, nh, wd, gl all enjoy the rest of the game"

I wont forget that hand but hey, that's poker, no need to be abusive over it.
