Default WARNING: The KOTH Table

..
Hi all,

As some of you know, I play on the KOTH table almost exclusively when it comes to the ring tables. Recently, I have noticed a 'trend' where some OP66 members who have previously never played there in the old script have tried their 'luck' on this table.

Now, I dun really know the reason(s) for this.. maybe it's hard to start a game on the Sit n Gos/Turbos, maybe the Sit n Gos are no longer as lucrative in their payouts compared to the old scripts... but whatever the reasons, some members have started playing there since we moved over.

I have received many PMs from members, read threads here etc, from members who have lost all at KOTH... and I feel sorry for them. I have given many of them chips to start again but I feel a thread of this nature is appropriate for anyone thinking of trying KOTH for the first time:

From someone who knows this table well, let me say this: THIS TABLE IS RUTHLESS.

Maybe it's coz there are players from other sister sites playing there, but unlike the KOTH at the old site, this 'new' KOTH is very chips-orientated. They are there primarily to take your chips first and foremost. Sadly, except for a few players, chatting and friendly banter, like the old KOTH, is a thing of the past...

While I'hv always maintained that to be a 'good' poker player, you have to be equally adapted in playing tournies, minis and ring tables, I have this 'advice' for anyone thinking about playing at KOTH for the first time:

- Make sure you have a big enough bankroll to survive some bad beats and unlucky hands (losing 10 million in a few hours is common !). I would suggest a minimum of 5M. Set aside 3M to try your luck there, and buyin at 250K-500K at a time.

- Be prepared to lose them all if you don't have at least a sizable bankroll. Losing all your chips you have pain-stakingly built up over months is a sickening feeling !

- If you have below 3M, NEVER ever buyin with your whole bankroll ! It's really pressurising when u have a good hand and someone's betting your whole bankroll on one call !

I have seen players go there with 5-10 millions, thinking maybe they can multiply their bankroll fast... and lost them all in a matter of days, and some, hours even !

Hope this little article helps.

Peace,
JediKnight

I miss that table but you are right many players go there with to few chips and get hammered. If you lose you should be prepared to start again from scratch.. see you there shortly with my full bankroll but i can take it on the chin. LOL plus I have a new title CHAMPION. Like my team

While this table is my absolute favorite table, because outside the big tournies it is the most friendly, Jedi is absolutely right (what a surprise)

I really don't see why anyone would reasonably come on that table with less than 5mil in their bank roll. Its quite difficult trying to contend with a chip stack on the table of say 500k or less. People throw millions around like nothing, and theres always someone tilting and betting 8mil with J3 or something.

Um, to try to add something meaningful, i would play VERY tight on this table. I usually dont play too many hands that aren't pockets or 2 face cards (K7 would be about as low as I would go) I tend to do okay, and when the cards are with you, you could do quite well as long as you play the hands right.

Well everyone, heed Jedi's warning, because there is going to be someone there to try and take your chips, and usually they suceed. Good luck

Im suprised that u r warning these numpties.I say2ya"let them take their chips2the koth if they wanna throw them away".
There is a difference between trying2up ya game n throwing yaself in at the deep end.
If ya a domestic house cat then u wudnt try n fight a lion.
These ppl sound like they need2learn the hard way n u gud players (AKA big guns) shud let em take a beatin.
Ive been playin about 4months now,ive built up a lil stack of 300k n if a newbie came at me with all their chips then i'd b happy2clean em out, simple.
Have these ppl never heard the expresion"biting off more than u can chew".

Jedi is my favorite player here, he has skill and over 100 million chips. when he post here i read and heed. he is what you would call "a good guy"
he is one of the top players here. his advice is free so take it and stay away from the king of the hill table.

Yes, i must say that the best way to learn is the hard way, as you learn lessons through unfortunate incidents (or failure).

I 'tried my luck' on KOTH, and the results weren't pleasing... though i say this, the first night i played on it i made over 2 million...more than i have ever made in one shot! From this, i thought that i would come on more often...

The next day, i had around 4.2 million. I went back on and entered only 250k to start with. However... i lost this rather quickly (pot sizes are simply unbelievable sometimes...'brutal'
i quote) After which, i went silly... when it came up to buy back in, the figure "3,000,000" was already there, so carelessly i entered it, little knowing it was almost all of my account...

Not surprisingly, i lost it all- 2 or so bad beats led to me going on tilt...and thus, ducky eventually came poverty stricken lol. After i lost this, i put in my last 800k or so, which i too lost in a rush of impatientness.

However, due to the kind nature of the all too lovely ppl on this site, i have seemingly accumulated back a nice amount. I'm approximately on 850k now, and slowly BUT SURELY rising.

It doesn't matter how good a player u are, if you have a short stack and enter the KOTH...you're in a world of trouble. Sure, there's a chance that u could make it, win big pots and fluke a few flushes and straights here and there- and win a few mill in an hour or so... but please, unless u are a regular on tht table, DON'T GO ON IT!!!

heed JK's warning, don't do what i - and i'm sure many others - have done. I recommend u stay wit ur regular tables ( i tend to stick wit the NL100 one's).

Thank you, take care, and good luck!

kwak

If your going on to that table dont go on with less than 3 million chips..If you do succeed in making a few million bank these chips and return with another 3 million.. Otherwise gains can be quickly lost. Ideally you need around 3 bankrolls to play this table so I would say about 9 million plus.. This will cover alot of bad beats.. Even if you do lose all your chips..learn from your mistakes and you will be a better player.. But there is other good tables you can play on 5k and 10 k are good ones to build up your stack. The key to getting up there and staying there is patience and dont chase to many pots..Good luck see yous on the KOTH soonish..
