Default Ban table chat censor! Please!

I am making an honest appeal that the powers-that-be please completely remove the chat censor from the table chat. It is totally useless. It only interrupts proper discussion.

I have become a real linguist learning to read in asteriskeze, but it really is a truly frustrating way to communicate.

I liken this to 'Gun Control' --- where guns are taken out of the hands of the good guys and end up with the bad guys. Here, the "bad guys" know how to space out words and parse whatever vulgarities they want to spew anyhow.

The numerous cases of normal, everyday words that are asteriskized is absoposirutely mind numbing when trying to communicate. For the love of OP66, can we please REMOVE the chat censor altogether?

Anyone else have other views on this?

Yep i second that,it randomaly does * this to realy anything even just to wwwwwwwwwww lol,its the most annoying thing i have seen used in a chatroom/chat box.

if you can make it 100% certainty that it will stop the real vulgar words then yes i am sure it will be fine but at the mo its a total waste of space.

ive been thinking about this for a while now... and i agree that it's a pain in the butt AND inhibits communication.

However, i've also noticed that the way it is set up now actually has a reverse effect from what it's trying to do ( delete or censor 'bad' words )...
seemingly harmless and innocent phrases and sayings now get HI-LIT, and your attention is actually drawn to the 'dirty bits ( letters )' in our chat... im SHOCKED at how many filthy nasty things we apparently are saying! lol

for instance:

the phrase "not watching" becomes "no* ***ching" ... look at what the missing letters spell...

or...

"going to london guv " becomes "going to lon*** *uv" ...

I have to agree. In its current format the censor is worse than useless.

One of my best mates here is Ulti. If he gets a bad beat I always say "ul ulti". It comes out "u* **ti". When he makes a joke I say "lol ulti", which comes out "lo* **ti". I can't work out why the letters l u l are censored and I've tried to for 5 or 6 weeks now lol.

I agree with MrCool, the current censor (albeit with best intentions) is doing the reverse of its job and highlighting 'dirty' words contained in perfectly innocent phrases.

I wouldn't agree with removing the censor though, I would instead prefer it was put back to its previous settings. Any veteran player will remember the abuse at pitbull and I, for one, would not like to return to that.

LOL mr cool.
I have noticed that when you say "got it" it has just recently stopped turning into "go* **" so maybe that's one word we are allowed to use.

Cracked up when I read this, but if the words "got it" were included in that sentence, even with the way you wrote it, the 'go' would stay but the next letters would be replaced with the asterisks... point being, no matter how you write it (spaces, etc), the censor will ban the words.

I placed this thread in the technical forum for a reason --- I really am serious with my recommendation --- the chat censor, as it stands is useless. If I want to communicate vulgarity, it is very easy to do. But if I want to carry on a normal conversation, it is very difficult. Simply stated, take away the censor.

Also, I read one response that recalled the days of pitbull poker. Let's remember the key difference. OP66 management did not have responsibility for the behavior of Pitbull players. OP66 does have control of the behavior of it's own players. Recently, I was on a table in a game where a newer member started acting up, dropping the F-bomb and making a total arse of himself. Didn't help his case that AusAngel was also at the same table! In a matter of mere minutes, this member was "removed". Simply stated, take away the censor and if a member acts up, a moderator can review the chat logs and take appropriate action, where necessary.

I know another debate can open up here, but to keep this thread on topic, please don't comment or address our inability to chat with other players who are not part of the OP66 community. As many know, we are part of a larger network. While I'd like to see that possible, I don't want this thread to go off-topic.

OP66 Management --- what say you? Can you please arrange for the removal of the chat censor from the tables?
