Default late reg cut short

Just trying to understand this if anyone can help please.

$2.20 Freezeout Tourney with late registration until the first break, 10 minute levels, 6 seater tables.

The tourney started with 7 entrants. 10 minutes in 1 player was out. Within a few minutes 2 more joined making 8 players remaining. 20 minutes in and it was down to 6 players left. Total number of entrants at that point was 9, so it was currently paying the first three places. All of that makes sense so far, but the bit I don't understand fully was that late registration had stopped at that point, even though it was advertised as until the first break.

Would it have been because it was a 6 seater table game and there were only 6 left it's considered to be the final table, and therefore late reg stops? I'm sure I've played tourneys before when its got down to 6 or 10 (i.e final table numbers) then still seen other people register? But maybe I'm mistaken.

If so then I might be adjusting my late reg strategy and entering when it looks like one player is about to go out leaving only 6 or 10 depending on the table set up.

yeah. I think how many people are in/ have gotten out is a major factor. It would be kinda weird if 33% of the field is gone and then next thing you know the field triples at the bubble.

I know this happens with outlaws a lot too. Sometimes I register 20 minutes late if there are 2 tables going, but if it's only 4 or 5 and one has been eliminated reg is usually closed

Mmmm maybe not as simple as I proposed.

Was in an Omaha tourney today which had late reg. Now it didn't specify when late reg ended, and they were 10 seat tables. I assumed it ended at the first break, as a lot of others do. We were past the first break and there was still late reg occurring. Now to be fair it didn't actually state that's when it would end, so obviously I was wrong to assume that was the case.

When we got down to 10 players I suspected it would end, but then another player registered. It finally ended and an hour and 20 minutes into the game, and maybe I missed something but it didn't seem to coincide with any given number of remaining players.

I have no problem at all with late reg no matter what length of time it covers, just trying to work out what makes it cut out, other than a specific period of time.

I'm sure it revolves at least in some part with how many players they can convince to pay a tourney fee. Everyone (this site not withstanding) loves to get more money.
