Default still learning

im still learning this game, yesterday i started well on the rings doubling up my $5 starting fee, went on to the$100gtd tourney, played in my opinion my best poker for ages ,intill the final table, with near on 2/1 chip lead on the 2nd placed player i tried to boss the table, big mistake soon cost me most of my chips and i ended up 3rd with pay of $27.went on to the $250 gtd and carried on my good form till near the end,the bubble was 7th place with pay of $11,2 players on very short stacks and i made a play for it with AQ up against AJ and he hit the J.not a bad beat , out in 9th but bad play by me for trying to win some chips when i could quite easily made some $,so much to learn still, but a good day with profit

Well done!!
A little bit of luck makes all the difference, I'm sure even the best players would've done the same with AQ, if the J hadn't come could've been a very good day.

I agree with sandy... a little bit of luck certainly does make a difference. And i'd like to add.. you can make your own luck, too. If you dont take risks in this game you'll never know what luck you'll get by doing so.

well done tel, keep up the good work!

Play to win, not to place. If that means the odd loss on or around the bubble, so be it. In the long term it is going to mean more profit due to the way the prizes are structured. If the lesson you have learnt from that hand is to tighten up to get into the money, it is a bad lesson.

There are many players who get tighter around the bubble and this can give you chance to play a more expansive game at this stage anyway.

As always, you need to read the table, but on and around the bubble is a really good time to make some moves ( IMHO ).

I agree with this, but lately I feel like I've taken that approach and busted my self just right before the bubble. Now, if I have anything below a medium/average stack I tighten up some, but look for key spots for an easy blind steal. Hopefully if you play it right you'll have a big stack around the bubble and bully some and play to win. If I'm low though I play to place. I'd rather break even than more often than not waste 2 hours without a cent to show. And there have been multiple times I've squeaked past the bubble and gone on a roll from there to make a deep final table run. I think it always depends on the circumstance, but 1st place is what pays you off for all your hard work (and bad beats in past tourneys)
