Default A question..

Ok guys, I'm new...

I've never played Omaha Poker as opposed to Texas Hold'em... Can someone tell me about it? -- I don't want to step into a game on here and not know how to play it.. well, or anything about it!!!

Hi Josh...in omaha poker you are given 5 cards in your hand....but you can only use 2 of them to make your winning hand with 3 off the table.
eg. flop....3 4 5
turn....10
river...J

in your hand you have 2 7 6 3 9

you would then have a 7 high straight

3 4 5 on the table and 6 7 in your hand.

It takes a little getting use to

Hope this helps.....good luck

sorry deb ... not exactly correct.

each player is dealt FOUR cards, of which TWO MUST be used ( no more, no less ) combined with 3 cards from the board.

it gets tricky when you are dealt AAA5, and flop has an Ace in it for example. you do NOT have quad aces, as you can ONLY use 2 from your hand...

here's a thread to explain the rules and action more completely: omaha Rules : how to play

good luck!

Omaha

What you do is get four cards. Doesn't matter much what they are because nobody really looks at them anyway. Next, they put three cards on the board. It doesn't matter what they are because nobody really pays any attention to the flop either. Then one more card for the turn and another one for the river. Same betting scenario as before. Doesn't really matter much what they are, except, for a few of the players that may have "cheated" and looked at their hole cards. These players may now fold if they have absolutely no outs. (Mostly bad sports.) Now, at the showdown, everybody turns over their cards and helps the dealer figure out who has the best hand. You MUST play two cards out of your hand so this usually takes a while and and the winning hand is usually found out after a little bit of searching by all of the players and a partially confused dealer. The dealer now pushes the pot to the wrong player and everybody yells at him and he smiles glibly and says, "Oh yeah,,,sorry" and then sends it in the right direction. Then, after all of that excitement dies down, everybody lets out a collective sigh of relief and gets ready to wind up and do it all over again. Fun game.

Omaha's a great game...not too much bingo!mainly coz everyhand is unbeatable until the river which of course everyone else thinks too, therefore, to maximise your pot slow playing is a no no,bet high (full house, quads, etc) but if new to the game watch out for flushes, straights and full houses, because more often than not there will be one on the table if not more!
some good characters on the tables you will have fun if you chose the right table m8

I love Omaha. More outs, and with less people it seems to have better odds.

Thanks every one who plays, and we welcome those that are willing to learn the game.
