It's not a bot and neither Quagan living on Auctions : I bet you have missed the automatic outbid feature... If you put a much higher price than the actual bid it will trigger automatic bidding.
Quagan got connections issues today, he will explain it in details tomorrow if you have further questions.

Edit : Such feature is available on all auctions sites like ebay & others, it's not a trick.
