I was asked by a moderator to remove my avatar last night as it seems like it was offensive to someone...I have removed it as it was not put up to offend anyone....As avatars have to be varafied by a mod, obviously mine was not deemed to be offensive at the time of posting so would I be within my rights to ask who complained about my avatar...and is it the policy now to make members remove their avatars if just One person complains..Also,I have now got another avatar that I did not choose myself nor did I put it on my page.Would it be possible to find out who put this new avatar up...........

Yes, i guess i AM complaining because I realllly don't think it is appropriate at ALL ( especially given the 'under 18' thing ).
But, .. I guess, really, tho, my initial question still stands: if this particular one is allowed ( the assumption, as it is still in place after being reported ), then what ARE the criteria for acceptability?

( cuz if they're THAT loose, i think i may be changin MINE next month )

i'd recomend both to discuss the situations with the moderators concerned via PM

Mick if you are using flash, you cannot upload an avatar, the only way you can is with the download version. If you cannot use the download version you will have to find a friend's pc download that version and upload your avatar from there.

im really confused now...

WHY would it NOT be appropriate to PUBLICLY INFORM us of the criteria for tastefulness and acceptability?

and with Jimmy's story, apparently nationalism is frowned upon, but having a picture of a dude with both middle fingers up IS allowed?

I'm sorry , but I strongly disagree that this should be handled via pm.. this should be public record so that we are ALL aware of the RULES and GUIDELINES. ( ie: so that no one else makes Jimmy's 'mistake' )

i never said it was not appropriate to post your responces here, however in your case you quoted it had been some time already, and in jimmys case he also appeared to be looking for an answer from a specific moderator.

for those reasons, and they fact it would most likely be dealt with quicker it made common sense to me to suggest to contact the mods concerned by PM.

also the mods who you were after answers from may not neceasserily see the requests here

to be clear ... i aint askin for individual mod intervention in this case. I have already asked, and told it would be dealt with.

THEREFORE, since i see that that particular avatar is still in place, ( and, of course, I trust the mods to be doing their jobs ), the only logical assumption is that it HAS been deemed acceptable ( since it has been over a week since reported.. MORE than enough time for investigation and action )

HENCE, my return to the question which has been asked TWICE now :

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTABILITY FOR AVATARS??

(i would think that any mod can answer this, and i think it would be good for EVERYONE to know in order to avoid confusion, unnecessary discipline, and unneeded work for the mod team)

a moderator had in this instance thought that the matter had been dealt with and the avatar removed and had they been re contacted they would have realised that infact the avatar was still showing.

infact atleast 2 other of us have again tried to remove the avatar today, but for some reason it is not showing on the file in a place we can delete it from

blacklava has spoke to the network for a better way for us to remove them when necessary

*sigh*....

ok i give up.

it was me who picked jimmy's avatar, and i would like to know what was wrong with it, if someone has a problem with jimmys nationality then i say thats shallow mindedness, and to go to a mod and complain??!!...i'm not irish at all and dont see any problem with having a nationality type avatar...so, i take it that ALL nationality type avatars are to be removed? USA, celtic, australia...if not, thats pretty discriminative in my opinion. the fact that someone doesnt agree with your beliefs and culture is certainly no reason to be singled out and chastised. i presume whoever it was made out that jimmy was being offensive, well guess what..he wasnt, it was all my doing, and if you think i am racist in putting that avatar on jimmy's account, then go ahead and challenge me on it...i have a good idea who it was, and as long as they know it wasnt jimmy who put it there, then alls good in the world...

same criterial as forum and profile pages.

however some will always "slip through the net" so if anyone see's any they think have crossed the line, please inform us

EDIT, btw the clarity on the avatars, and size is not as good as they show on table when there checked, so sometimes it can be hard to tell exactly what the avatar is

kev, the point i am trying to make is to the person who complained...jimmy was not being offensive as it was me who picked the avatar, and i am not irish so therefore was not being racist, so whatever it was that they said, is a load of clop sorry...i just dont think jimmy should be made out to look as if he was being offensive when it was me that did it...

you need to be using the download version to upload an avatar, and not the flash version
