Does anyone think as I do that the ridiculous scenes at the Birmingham v Villa game last night may very well sink the England bid to stage the World Cup in 2018. Pretty thoughtless by the Birmingham supporters, not the advertisement that we needed.

i dont think it helps fred, but also the panorama programme, that they could of shown after the decision was made !! but thats the BBC for you, they think they are bigger than everyone, show so called evidence that the votees are corrupt, then ask them for to vote for England bid, yeah right !!!!

Having just watched everyones pitches this morning,england put forward the best one by a mile.

Yep, the panorama programme was stupid and badly timed to the extreme but last night was idiotic on the eve of the decision. If I was one of the 22 judges I would certainly have crowd trouble in mind, and for that to happen when it did was unforgivable.

To answer your question Fred

I don't think the Bermingham V Villa fans trouble did the English World Cup bid any good.

I'd like to believe that all votes were cast prior to the game, but 'according to Sky Sports Sources' some hadn't yet made up their mind and this may have tipped the balance.

As theguvnor posted, the BBC Panorama programme didn't help at all.

Then there was the former bid leader Lord Triesman who also quit in May after he was secretly recorded making allegations about rival bids.

Skybet also had the English bid way ahead as favourite, so I think the bid was very much built up by the media in one hand and dirtied by the media in the other hand.

I was really hoping England got it, easy access, lots of friends and relatives living there, great stadia and 'The New Anfield Stadium'......finally

I'd hope it's a great event in 2018, but I recall many stories of a corrupt police force in Moscow confiscating passports of travelling supporters (2004) for no reason (other than wearing Irish scarfs) and basically ripping fans off for their safe return. One of these supporters my mates father, an absolute gent, who was aged 68 at the time. He said he'd never return.
