Default All in pre flop?

Just wondering if anyone would like to give me their opinion on how they would have played this hand.

Last 4 in Hetmans tourney. My intention was to raise pre flop to try and get more added to the pot, then go all in post flop hoping to get any callers to fold. It's worked for me lots of times before but I think I played it wrong this time.

In the circumstances I think I should have gone all in pre flop, to try and get all of the other players to fold, then be happy to win the blinds. Especially as I was on the button. I actually thought that straight after I raised and before the flop was dealt, but I had already made my bet so it was too late.

My raise wasn't enough to stop someone calling with the sizes of the other players stacks. I guess Yeoman may have still called me if I had gone all in, but I think it would have been unlikely because he is a pretty shrewed player.

After the flop I put Yeoman on a possible pair of aces. But he was first to play, and betting the minimum on a flopped ace can very often be a bluff. So I figured I was fairly commited at that point, and also short stacked, so it was worth the risk. Yeoman might not have had an ace or I may have hit a third queen but it was a long shot.

Well done Yeoman by the way.

hi stevo.

going by the amount you was behind, if i was in that position holding QQ my 1st choice i would have pushed all-in pre flop.
for yeoman to call 7k might have pushed him off and forced a fold. however, just a raise left yeoman with only a 1.5k call and with the anount of chips he had and holding A 6 would defo be worth a call to see the flop.

my second choice would be to limp in and just call the 1.5k and hope yeoman would just check his BB. unfortunatley an Ace came on the flop so therefore at that point i would check and see what yeoman did. he might have slowed played his ace giving you the chance to see the turn and/or river. if then yeoman pushed you all-in at the river i would fold.

anyhow, its hard to speculate what people might do so therefore my 1st choice to go all-in pre flop would be the right choice in my opinion.

hope that helps mate.

fut.

edit: just to add to this.. looking at it from another angle say yeomans position. seeing you just raise could be seen as trying to nick the blinds with a medium to high hand. in that case if i was yeoman i would have re-raied and put you all-in if i was holding A 6. especially at that point in the game, for two reasons; 1: if i got lucky and put you out i'd be the clear leader. 2: if i lost i'd still be in a good position with 25kish. however, if you pushed all-in i'd defo think about foldibg for sure...and probably would and wait for a stronger hand to call.

you're smart enough already m8 you know exactly what you should have done but you made a mistake. we all do. but sometimes mistakes work out good and we get lucky. but with only 4 players left there will be more all-in play than normal because players want to pretect their hands. QQ is a defo all-in when your low stacked by a large margin.

its good that you post this though coz we can all learn from it.

cheers. stevo

fut.

Considering we only have 5 big blinds, 4 handed, folded to button, I'd push all-in with any two cards at this point. All-in is the right move, you are so short that you just can't fold, whatever the flop is. Just better to shove right away.

With so few players left at a critical point in the game it has to be a push, you only have two choices, all in or all out and you are definately not folding pocket Q's, once you have pushed all your decisions have been put in the other players laps. if you get out flopped, unlucky put it down to experience
