It does not take long to realise that every mistake you make on the poker table costs chips and money so been a beginner myself i would be gratefull to those that will kindly take the time out to point out common mistakes they see, or do on the poker tables your contributions will save us beginners a lot of pain, and empty bankrolls

One of the big ones is betting out of position,i still fall foul of this still, being first to act is a real disadvantage.

good advice from ulti and lfcfan, two good players on this site. watch the old timers play and they will give u a lot of hints on how to play a hand. that's how I picked up a lot of hints here. I agree with puff be careful of over playing your pairs and position is really important also.

Good luck and welcome to our family site. Cya on the tables

LOL....I thought that was my problem, I treat my "play chips" if they were real money.

I just need to learn how to play, I guess. I am trying to just play in the tourneys.....not workin' out to good however, keep forgettin' about 'em. Except Wombats, the bad thing is it's at 2am my time. (Tourney's are where you find the best game play.)

Sorry not a better tip for ya. Except just have fun. GL.....

Dont go mad betting pre-flop unless your short stacked, the odds may be in your favour before the cards hit the table but its a lottery anything could come down on the flop, try and see one first(flop) you will then have a much better idea of where you are

I think what may help is to sit out every alternate game and see if you have had won if you played the game? this way you will also be able to see others betting pattern.

Just thought I should point out here, yes do try and see a flop if you can for cheap. But sometimes be a bit smart, if you've got some god awful hand like Q4 off suit then fold it. That doesn't go to say only play purely premium hands, but try and play smart hands (suited connectors etc.) And play that way until you develop some solid and viable bluffing technique in which case it becomes little to do with the cards at all, merely how you play them.

patience is definately one, always be patient.
try to exploit your opponents faults,
if they are a fish.. value bet more and more thinly..
if they are solid and tight, they will always fold to a bet if they have totally missed, so contination bets are key. gl to you.
