Default Do you play low cards in (mini) tourneys?

Just curious , do you play your low cards as well as your high ones or fold till you get that monster hand?

personally I play any hand unless I am low on chips or someone raises the blind or if the blind is to expensive.

I am talking about low cards alone without a high kicker which are able to make a straight or pocket pairs.
I managed to surprise a few times like that but overall I play them cautiously.

Was this just dumb luck and is it a general "rule" not to play them?

Sorry if I made some newbie mistake I am still getting the hang of poker , learned the rules on this site and been playing since a few weeks but getting the hand on card reading. My bluffing still needs work tho but that's another story

keep playing and you will develop your own style.
You just need to read your opponents weather to play low cards or not

you may find that playing low cards all the time will cost you alot of chips as you work up through the table's because players behind you are likely to raise.

ok,low suited connectors can be playable in in the right position at the right time and also it depends on the blinds (how much).

i am sure there are threads on starting hands on the forum to read which may help.

good luck

Depending on position and blinds level I would play low suited connectors or 2 other low cards as long as there is a five.

my style and stragtegy is all over the place, i dont really stick to one, sometimes ill be overlyy agressive, and others ill be overly passive...if there ever was such a thing.

however if i have a huge chip stack ill bluff low hands and play great hands

lifes to short....There is the same amount of low cards in the deck as high cards....But I tend to take the risk when I seem to be on a roll....

Mini tourneys are effectively just a shortened version of the multi-tourney and as such they should be approached the same way.

If you're playing toss cards, then not only are you depleting your stack, which will pressure you later on when the blinds raise and limit how much you can earn from other players when your hand is good, it also increases your opponents stack, meaning they can start to dictate play.

TLDR: Fold bad/average hands.

If you only play your premo hands, you'll start to find that finishing 3rd and upwards is a regular occurence, not an anomaly.

Oh, as a final point, it is possible to fold every single hand you've got until blinds eventually get you and still finish 3rd. If you play patiently, you'll start winning. Too many people dive in at early stages and get bitten.

cheers robbie , sometimes I do get a streak of low cards and I play them cause I get impatient but I see I start losing more and more. guess I had a few lucky calls with those low hands.

No probs. It can be hard folding continually through a bad streak of hands, I know I end up playing a king and four (crap hand by the way) when I'm getting frustrated, only to tell myself off for it afterward.

Here's a tip; the next time you play a mini tourney, only play these hands, and play them aggressively (if suited even better). Fold everything else.

A A / A K / A Q / A J / A 10 / A 9 / A 8
K K / K Q / K J / K 10
Q Q / Q J / Q 10
J J / J 10
10 10

That is by no means the definitive guide on what to play, I'm not an expert, but those hands will win the majority of the time, and if you're winning the majority of hands you'll be on the way up the poker ladder.
Once you're sorted and you know what style suits you, experiment with other hands. I'm a sucker for playing 7 8 offsuit. It's not a great hand, I just like the possibility of suprising someone with a straight as they expect me to fold anything that is not perfect.

i usually do that throughout most of the first 2 blind lvls but eventually if you dont play some hands the blinds were burn huge holes through your stacks and you will have no chance at getting to the top 15, let alone the final table.

I will play any, I've always bet to see the flop cos u never know wat is gonna come up
I'm not an expert (tryin though )but I think you need to see the flop and then you decide to bet or fold.
Low cards can mean nothing to me and I'll still bet,....who knows wat u get

Even if you do manage to hit a pair on the flop - you'll still be beaten by someone elses better pair.
Conserve your chips so that when you do get dealt kindly, you can play more aggresively with it.
