Also Shelly do not call before the flop if you are holding low cards. That is a major no no

totally disagree with that....which is probably why i have no money.

but seriously shelly, see the flop if you can, regardless of your cards.

there is nothing quite so satisfying as getting say, i don't know full over 2s to beat a high pair, but hey i'm a romantic

I totally agree with Jbag.. you never know what the flop will bring --3 twos always beats 2 aces
but be careful not to over extend your chip count.. if it's too high someone probably is holding a pair of something..

I agree with Baz. since ive been doing this Ive been playing alot better poker.
plus losing alot less too.
But you do sometimes kick yourself when three 3's pop up. or a low 6 high straight.

I call if I have middle pair or better, usually unless there is a flush draw after the flop. I love over-playing that same flush draw, though.... probably why I lose so much!!!

how can you bluff if you can't see the other person's face?

I also agree with Baz. It is fun to go out on a whim and bet on nothing and wait for the flop but like you said, it doesnt always pay off. If you maintain this, youll lose too many chips. Best to mix it up. If I have a high card, Ill see the flop unless the stake is too high.

Boofhead - on the bluff point - you notice people are bluffing by their style of play. If they have been betting moderately with good hands but then make a high bet before the flop, you know something is not right. But I agree its hardeer without seeing the player! Its still fun though.

its nothing to do with their cards or the flop its bully tactics to make the less confident players drop out and to steal blinds. I only ever stay with betting pre flop if it doesnt get ridiculous and i have something to back it up

If you call with every 2/3 sure you'll hit a full house sometimes. But the odds are very low you'll lose more chips from the pre-flop callin then you will gain when you finally do hit 2 pair or a full house, plus the odds are the same with any two high cards of hitting a fullhouse so why not wait for those.

My best advice is to look at the top lists; then go to a table some of those players are on AS AN OBSERVER and watch their play. They made it to the top lists by learning from their mistakes. If you are on the big blind its a free turn unless someone bets crazy. You will find that by waiting to get good cards you will be better off. HAVE is far better than COULD BE! Hang in there, you'll get better as you go.

Early on in the game, when the blinds are small this can turn up a good hand from nothing
