Default help for adjusting to multi's

i have sensed a different atmosphere and play in multi tournaments than mini tournaments and ring tables of course. What should i do in order to adjust to this; i had to adjust to get used to mini's..

I play the multis as if they were a series of mini tourneys.

My other consideration is the average chip count as the tourney progresses.

Here is a starting tip for you: As you get big hands you need to bet them strongly. You can’t afford to let other players see the flop and outdraw you. When you play these tournaments you really don’t have to worry as long as your stack is about average in relation to everyone else. Don’t get too concerned about the chip leader. If you do happen to get short stacked, however, you will have to take chances. You can’t let the blinds destroy you.

Can't agree more.

AA, bet at least 3 times the big blind, if everyone folds, OK you have picked up the blinds, hopefully you will get one caller preflop and you are favourite.
More than one caller pre flop and you are odds against ending up with the best hand.

CONSERVE.

Fold fold fold fold fold fold until you've got a hand worthy of playing. Once you've got it you can starting betting big sums.
This'll work well in two ways
1) You're not wasting chips on possible winners that eventually turn out useless.
2) The money you save will give you a bigger return for when you do hit the hand.

Too many people make ridiculous sized bets in the early stages of the game when the blinds are next to nothing. It's far too risky.

I agree, Bob. I won the second multi I played (70+ players or so), and fueled by the false confidence of a few brewskis, I played extremely aggressively. Suddenly, the last table (though I didn't know that). Helmuth's formula to a T.
