patience is key i find i often play well up till near the end of big tourneys and then in one hand i chase ( and chase... and chase) and then in one foul swoop im at nothin chips again...

Exactly that, more difficult in tournaments I think.... I'm patient 'til I win a big pot in cash game and always loose the chips a few hands later on a bad move... ![]()

it depends the type of player you are. if you like to play agressive and loose, that isnt necessarily a bad thing, really it depends over time if your winning or losing in the longer term. im not a tight player, but there are a lot of them. even so it does not mean they are right. if you can play a successful, loose, gambling game, then good luck to you. if you think you are losing more than you are winning then you could try tightening up. learn to enjoy the feeling of adrenyline, its perfectly natural, learn to use it to your advantage, because you can.

i think everyone has this problem at some point. Just set yourself a target and a standard of hand that you want to play and stick to it no matter what (e.g. I usually don't play anything below K 10 pre flop, but of course there are variable circumstances occasionally). If you're feeling frustrated or rash, just instant fold a few hands/sit out, have some tea or coffee and a biscuit until you've re-focused! it could make all the difference in the end.

It's patience...one of the traits I've become better at as I've gotten older....I still get the nerve thing sometimes in live games though. I know I must be giving off "tells" (hey, anyone got any advice on that?) but I do notice that if I play tighter (patiently) then I go into a hand with more confidence.
