Aaaah, grammer! Dices, as in the context of "...dices with death" is acceptable according to Harraps' "usage and abusage of the English language"

True, it would also be accepted as a verb "It dices, it slices, it chops and it grates". But we were on a different subject at the time.

Interesting read, this thread and reading Lava's first post, it reminded me of my first dabble with Poker about a year and a half ago.

I first started playing on a PS2 game so I could get an idea of the rank of hands, betting rules, etc. I then looked online and found OP66 and got my free chips.

I then started playing on the small tables as we all do and was a very conservative player at the start. As I got better on the PS2 and starting here, I learnt that it was fairly safe not to call unless I had 10 & 10 off suit or above and then to start betting on what came out on the flop, etc.

I was patient and that patience payed off and in a short space of time (about 6 to 8 weeks, I was up to 4.5 mil - which was a great feeling). I then started to play a lot bigger buy ins, tournaments and Omaha and lost loads as I had a good bankroll and let my 10 / 10 or above rule slide.

I'm not fussed about how big my bankroll is now, but Lava's advice is good for newbies and players with just a little more experience like myself. I might revert to this tactic to see how I fare when the tables come back online. Let's see how long it takes before I start to try my luck!?!

The best advice I got (especially when playing lee) is don't get sucked in to the "all in pre-flop"......there ain't 'arf been some lucky b***ers!!!.....and I'm not usually one of 'em!!!

OK, I will go all-in pre flop in a tourney if my chip stack gets low and I think I have the cards that justify it, but I have managed to have some good comebacks by doing this, but that's where the patience needs to come back into play.

Patience and experience = the skill to play a good game. Don't rely on luck. It will bite you in the end.

Hope to see you all soon.

Graham

You're totaly right about the 1/5 hand being a decent one.
I have had 4k with 50 big blinds and my chips would have gone down really fast without me realising.
